I was hearing at Ibrox today that a couple more will follow Kranjcar out the door in the coming week as there is a wee bit of money in the payoff kitty before the tax year ends. Don't have any idea who, just 'two or three' was mentioned. In the group of people speaking, there was a former director, a current senior administrator and a former player of much influence.

Any business in the UK can choose when their own financial year starts and ends. The tax year (fiscal year) as determined by HMRC ends on 5th April each year.

Tax year is April, financial year can be any date.
Tax year has absolutely nothing to do with a pot of cash for pay off's.

The business year and the tax year are seperate. The tax year does indeed end on the 5 april.
I am not saying the above is true but if a business had made a taxable profit they would look to pay off anyone they were due to pay off at end of the season early as this would count as a loss and we would be more tax efficient to deduct these payments first.

For UK companies tax is paid on profits within your financial year. Which is 1st July to 30th June for Rangers.

Earnings between 5th April 2017 and 4th April 2018 are not what dictates Rangers taxable profits. It is it's earnings between 1st July 2017 and 30th June 2018.

Tax year dictates the rate you pay e. g. you pay the rate for the tax year which your companies financial year begins in.
