A bid is required and has to be accepted by Norwich if we want Cantwell in this window. If However we sign him on a pre contract and he comes in the summer then it’s just terms to be agreed with the player.

Agreed there seems some form of verbal agreement between Cantwell and us, but if Norwich dig there heels in over an excessive fee, this may just be a pre contract agreement.

Better to get Cantwell on a pre-contract and have him join in the summer. We’d need at least two out the door before considering buying him now. The squad is far too big. Hagi, Lawrence, Lowry and possibly Tillman can all fulfil a similar role, although it would maybe be slightly deeper than they usually play.

For me if we get Cantwell in January for a reasonable fee then great. If we have signed him on pre contract it is literally just a loan fee we are paying for the final few months of the season. If someone said you are only taking him on loan for a few months how much would you realistically pay. Certainly no where near the ridiculous £4m quoted.

I get that John but the player Chelsea are getting is a completely different level to Cantwell . I would be reluctant to even part with £1m for a championship player on a four month loan. The only change to this could be if the player will not sign the pre contract unless the fee is agreed to join in Jan.
