I see Joey Barton has scored on his return to Burnley. Did we let him go too early or was he just no trying at all when he was up here?

No we got rid of a bad egg. don't think because he scored a goal in a game we've made a mistake

Halliday set his dummy out because he didn't like what Barton evidently said and Warburton sided with Halliday. Perhaps if Barton had been playing well he might have been listened to!

Do we know that's what happened for a cert?

I asked the question because he scored after coming on as a sub in one of the top leagues in Europe without having kicked a ball competitively for 4 months. No doubt he will be shouting his mouth off on twitter later about it.

I know it was only one goal but that is more than he done for us against poorer opposition. I agree with both of you he wasn't playing well enough for the manager to do a u turn and he probably wanted out and would cause trouble to force the club to take action.

To be honest I think Warburton thought we could have challenged Celtic hence him saying 2nd is nowhere for Rangers and they took a gamble offering big money to Barton and Kranjcar it became apparent early on that we weren't good enough and they saw a chance to get rid of Barton.

No matter what you think of Barton 8 games isn't enough to say how good or bad he was and I think the whole situation could have been resolved had Warburton really wanted to.

Spot on tom. He told mw and a halliday a few home truths and they didn't like it. He's certainly got previous but sean dyche and the burnley players don't seem to have a problem with it and he will be a key player for them this season in a far superior league than the spl.

if he had only done a proper pre season and warbs used him properly he would have been an asset on the park. off the park he is a total mouth piece and is cringeworthy every time he opens his trap. good ridance

Defo not trying, he quickly realised he didn't want to be here so he worked his ticket

Barton should have replaced Halliday in the defensive mid role no doubt about it. I know its unfair as Halliday is playing out of position but a fully fit Barton has loads more to offer than what we have at the moment.

I think this was probably his frustration after the old firm 5-1 game and gave a few a character reference and told them in no uncertain terms they weren't as good as some of them believe they are.

Our loss in my opinion and the situation was terribly mismanaged.

An easy league? your having a laugh the spl is one of the worst leagues in europe. Take out celtic and it's on a par with league of Ireland you only have to look at dundalk getting further than any Scottish team in Europa league and there basically a part time team. Epl might be over rated but I know what league I'd rather watch. (If rangers are not playing)

Hooly you must be having a laugh, when was the last decent English prem game you saw? Totally over rated, and over priced league in the world, spl might not be the best of quality, but I've watched some cracking games this year. Stop knocking our game for a change.

Barton's not under any pressure now. Burnley were expected to be relegated while Rangers are expected to win every game no matter how limited the team. Barton couldn't take the pressure, he's under none now so he will be much happier.

Take out Celtic and it's a very competitive league. Maybe not have the best players (which English leagues don't either) but just as competitive.

Ya and on a level with league of Ireland.

Alberta, you are 100% correct and that is the problem, the rest of the teams, ourselves included are dire in terms of quality sides that could compete in the EPL. That is where we need to get back to; it is a nonsense that a club with a support the size of ours is so poor in our pursuit of the league championship.
