Has anyone heard what other names are in the frame to become our new director of football after christian nerlinger turned us down?I've heard a whisper that scot gardiner the ex dundee chief executive is the favourite, I was also hearing our former dutch left back arthur numan is very much in the frame also

Seemingly rangers have offered marius zaliukas a one year contract with another year option which effectively could make this a two year deal, his wages are supposedly structured that he gets 4k a week for his first year & if we get promoted to the premiership he doubles his wages to 8k a week, there's no doubt big zal is good, very solid centre half

Gazza8

1.) Not saying we don't need a centre half but as i've said on the financial page we needed to get a loan to get us through last season, and all we hear is ally saying " I think there's a few quid still in the budget". Andy Little and Ross Perry are the only players I know that have left and I can't see their wages covering the wages off the 3 players that have all ready come in. As I have been saying for the last 2 years we need to walk before we run and I think the players from last season would have walked this league even with hearts and hibs. We all like signing players but we have to be ecomonic with the resources we have not risk our future to cover ally managerial abilities

2.) A good player and it is a position we need to look at but the amount of wages we are paying out is concerning- not just for this deal but for all the players we have! i'm sure there are players out there that will be just as good and cheaper.

Its just been announced that don cowie has turned down the chance to stay at cardiff city, cowie will now choose between rangers, blackburn rovers & watford as his next destination, he's a terrific midfielder who'd walk into our midfield but I honestly don't think we can afford him wages wise, unfortunately for us I think he'll stay in the english championship and sign for either blackburn or watford, alas, you can't win them all!

1.) 04 Jul 2014 07:57:45
have to agree gazza8 good player but if truth be told we can't afford him or the rest of the players we signed this year after the 9 from last season, please don't say but we are rangers remember we had to borrow £1.5m just to feb wages. As I've said many times on the financial page we need to walk before we run not buy league to hide ally management abilities

2.) 04 Jul 2014 12:14:25
Guys we can't afford him, but that's not stopped us going ahead and signing someone before. I wouldn't write this one off. I heard the boys keen to bring his young family back to Scotland.

3.) There could be a chance as cowie is a blue nose. not a big chance but as boyd says as a rangers fan its hard to turn down rangers.

Ed could you please put this poll out there to all rangers fans, I've always rated paul gascoigne as the greatest midfielder to have ever played in a rangers shirt, would you put this in a poll to gauge what all other 'gers fans think to who is regarded the best midfielder to have ever played with us, cheers ed!

Gazza8

{Ed039's Note - Done Gaz)

1.) Gazza defo for class and skill and eye for goal, but I rate Barry ferguson up there as well as being number 1 when it comes to everything to do with rangers! Total legend, what a player he was as well, he would've died for rangers, so in that sense, am going with Barry, but gazza in his day was a better player! 2 legends

2.) Baxter

3.) Gazza8 got to agree on the durrant midfielder point in fact graham souness built his rangers team round about durrant

4.) Find it unbelievable that anyone can possibly in any way even in the slightest make comparisons between an unbelievable talent like Gazza and a slightly above average midfielder,

5.) Trevor stevens baxter van bronchorst b ferguson I rate themm all better than gazza at times he played great but did not perform in europe even steven davis is comparable probably tie between baxter and stevens

6.) Everyone mentioned were great players but Ian Durrant was a match for any of them and given the chance, I believe, would have been, by far, the best.
I was in the main stand, at Pittodrie, when simpson's assault took place. It wasn't a tackle, it was gbh and should have been dealt with accordingly.

7.) 17 Jul 2014 16:03:33
agreed billyb wee durranty was a class act- just floated over the ground effortlessly. Probably the best timer of an attacking run into the opposition box I ever saw. Remember the run from the superb Davie Cooper back heel into the Celtic box to poke away another win at Ibrox? A wee bit like another classy midfielder Bobby Russell remember is away goal in a 2-3 win at Twente Enscede? (Well some Dutch team anyway who were big cheeses at the time)
From memory of that fateful game at Pittodrie it was Neil Cooper who fouled Simpson. Simpson turned round -straight leg studs out but found wee Durranty's leg and not Coopers. No harm to big Neil but young Ian was a far bigger loss to both the Gers and Scotland. It also pretty much finished Simpson's career at the top level- huge tragedy for a few seconds of complete indiscipline from the two Aberdeen legends.

8.) Nbear you say it more or less finished simpsons carrer but it was a liberty durrant came back well sort of came back but seeing him up until that incident I wonder how far ian would have went in football it was tragic eh simpson should have been sin died for such a blatent assault against a totally innocent victim it brought a tear to my eyes reading [a managers diary ] graham souness

9.) 17 Jul 2014 22:59:36
NBear

That tackle by Simpson was an absolute disgrace and was deliberate. I don't know how anyone can feel any sympathy for him. I was at the match and the thing that actually sticks in my mind was Durrant getting a piggy back off the pitch. Not sure that was the right way to take him off and don't think it would have helped with the injury

10.) Nbear, that Cooper[ Davie. ] back-heel is fixed in my memory and cool as you like Durranty stuck it in the net.
Big Neil was a recent signing for us and noised up every Aberdeen player from the start. From memory I think it was him that got our goal. Your right, Nbear, he was probably was the target but that assault ruined the potential of the best talent we have ever produced.

11.) Lw you seem to be the only one that thinks durrant was a slightly above average midfielder eh ime pointing this out to you in your responce to my mentioning durrant and was wondering what age you are

12 Jul 2014 15:36:57
Ed, if you don't mind could you please put in motion a poll to ask all the 'gers fans who they rate the best centre half now at ibrox, ie. marius zaliukas, darren mcgregor, bilel mohsni, big jig, seb faure, luca gasparotto, or any other etc, cheers ed!

Just getting away from the usual stuff for a moment, has anyone seen any images/pictures of our new home top yet & if so what's it like?I know it is available to buy from thursday the 7th of august

Gazza8

1.) 13 Jul 2014 14:50:37
Gazza8 go to WWW.footyheadlines glasgowrangers home kit 14/15
or google rangers home kit. 2014/15 mate
r.f

2.) Yes, I've seen it in the flesh.

It's a light shade of royal blue with a white folding collar, similar to the 2010/11 umbro home shirt, but not the same material. It has the badge and puma logo in white, as well as the 32Red sponsor logo in white across the middle of the shirt. There are a couple of thin white lines running down the inner sides of the shirt and the only red element that I could see is a little touch on the collar, directly underneath where the button is. It has a similar look to the Italian world cup home shirt in many ways, but looks a little cheaper.

It's a pretty nice shirt, though I always prefer a Rangers home shirt to be a slightly darker shade of blue and I also like to see a striking bit of red on there as well, which this doesn't really have.

I'd give it a 6. 5/10.

We won't be signing don cowie as he's signed a two year deal with wigan this afternoon

After giving this a lot of consideration I really do think we should give wee temps a free role in our team for the new season, he has the ability if he stays injury free to be our messi & would be tremendous in my opinion in the floating no. 10 role that messi plays for both argentina & barcelona, david templeton has great ability & is in the mould of the old tanner baw player if you like, your thoughts on this

Gazza8

1.) Agreed, Gaz. I said it further down the page that he would be suited to that role. He is an intelligent player, good dribbler, can beat players for fun, he's quick and he can finish. My team for next season with what we have just now would be Bell in goal, back four of Foster, McGregor, Zaliukas, Wallace, midfield three of Black sitting with Law and MacLeod either side given license to join the attack and Temps in a free role behind Boydy and Miller.

2.) 07 Jul 2014 19:07:26
David Templeton - Messi? got to be having a laugh he's on stupid money, Young Mckay and Aird on the wings would be enough for me

3.) N1 believe that looks good enough for me mate with the exception of black ide play parelta in there

4.) LeeBoy, a few points.

1) He clearly means Temps could play a similar role to Messi in our team. A perfectly valid point in the context of the conversation.

2) He said Temps playing as a number 10, so not on the wings, making your statement about McKay and Aird irrelevant.

3) Aird is garbage.

5.) Believe, I'm glad you like myself have a decent football brain & understand the concept of making the point of temps playing in the same role as messi & not that he is messi, I just don't understand what piece of my straightforward post leeboy clearly can't grasp, again believe you're spot on on the point that I was indeed meaning a free no. 10 role for wee temps & not solely as a winger because in overall football ability temps is streets ahead of both aird & mckay

6.) 07 Jul 2014 22:47:11
Playing with no one wide would be awful
Aird isn't "garbage" he's got plenty of time to improve, far too judgemental on young players
It should be Templeton Lm Aird/Mckay Rm as David templeton can't go a season without getting injured Aird and Mckay will be LM and RM no doubt, and for Jon Daly I can't see him getting over this knee problem

7.) Leeboy12, I didn't say play with no width, I said give wee temps a free role, if you have been watching the world cup you'll know exactly what I'm meaning as most countries deploy this strategy my friend

8.) Would agree Templeton should be given a free role similar to Messi

I'm going to be frank & totally honest here and remember guys this is only my opinion, as a rangers season ticket holder all my life I'm entitled to that, I personally think regarding big bilel mohsni there's most definitely a player in there, if big mohsni sticks to defending he is a decent centre half, if he cuts out this thought he has of trying to beat one player too many he'll do just fine

Gazza8

I've heard that mccoist will only sign one of either zaliukas or bouzid, he'll most definitely make zaliukas his no. 1 centre half signing target over bouzid although bouzid can also play right back and would be better than any right back we currently have at rangers, so maybe we should sign him also for our rb position

Totally agree with you jg, I wish some of these so called rangers supporters would get off big mohsni's back, if he cuts out the showboating & just concentrate on his defending then there's most definitely a very decent centre half in there, he's so commanding in the air, he can bring the ball out of defence, can pass the ball & he's very strong, a concentrated big billy will do for me, I hope we keep him

I know bigcol1872 where you're coming from regarding the biggest problem area we have ie. the rb position, I'm not all that keen on faure to be perfectly honest but I think he's a slightly better option than any of our other so called right backs, I've said this many, many times, we should never have let young jordan mcmillan go, that guy would be our established rb by now if mccoist had kept him

Would have to totally agree with bigcol1871, I think in your team DOIGER the midfield is a bit too light, my rangers starting 11 would be-bell, faure, mcgregor, zaliukas, wallace, law, black, mcleod, templeton, boyd, miller
