Would have liked to have seen us go for Georgi Dermendzhiev. Done really well with Ludogorets, has a 60% win ratio and won the league twice over in his two year tenure at the club, in a league similar to Scotland, if not probably better quality. Biggest signing was also only £500k.

Watched them in Champions League a few times and looked pretty solid defensively and very quick and flowing in attack. And managed to give teams like Arsenal/ Real/ PSG/ Basel a good run.

On another note. Don't know if anyone else read the article on twitter from an ESPN journalist discussing Pedro Caixinha. Spoke highly of him. His footballing philosophy on paper and from a sports journo's perspective doesn't sound too shabby if he can't implement it.

From what I have read, he's not overly concerned with possession. He uses pacey wingers and likes to hit on the counter, whilst being defensively organised (which we haven't been) . All sounds well and good, just putting it into practice.

Alright guys,

Whats everyones thought on trying a 3 at the back?

Wilson - Senderos - Kiernan

WIth Wallace and Tav playing as wingbacks. I think this could be a good system for playing against teams (hopefully) when we get to Europe. This would also suit a midfield pairing like Barton and Rossiter or Halliday. With 2 upfront probably Garner, as he looks willing to throw himself about, win in the air and hold up play. Which you could literally float, Waghorn, Windass, Holt, Forrester or MoH of him?

Think its worth a shout when teams are set up to counter 4-3-3.

No thanks, why would we change our structure to accommodate both Wilson and Kiernan, two players that are the weakest in the team. They will both be lucky to get a game once everyone is fit if other players play to their full capability.

I for one want to see what Crooks is capable of and if he could play at centre back he would come into the side for me ahead of both Kiernan and Wilson.

Perhaps if we had better centre backs than Kiernan and Wilson it would be an option but, as we have seen before, playing these two guys together weakens the side.

2.) 01 Sep 2016 09:29:54
Don't see how they are the weakest in the team based on this seasons performances. Haliday has by far looked the weakest player to me we do literally nothing when he's in midfield. Neither the two have made any mistakes but they still continue to get slaughtered by fans and I don't understand why. Also we will never change from 4-3-3 the whole time MW is managing us and that's just his pholosophy on how football should be played. Doesn't matter if you're watching a first team game, an under 20's or an under 10's its all 4-3-3 (maybe not the under 10's but you get what I mean)

3.) 01 Sep 2016 09:44:54
While I like the 3-5-2 formation it has a major flaw, which is that it can be destroyed by fast wingers. All you do is play balls over the top to them or diagonal balls out wide for them to run on to. This is why Lovenkrands did so well against Celtic.

The fact that Celtic have quick and skillful wingers makes this formation a big no no for me.

4.) 01 Sep 2016 10:27:47
Ross - it doesn't have to be Plan A, we need a Plan B for when things aren't going our way with our system. I believe 4-3-3 is the way to go against most opposition. Just 3-5-2 would be a good way of countering teams that are countering 4-3-3 haha!

Boss - I agree about the Celtic thing, 4-3-3 is a good system to play against them, they'll come out and play and give us space.

5.) 01 Sep 2016 11:07:16
it's laughable that you say Wilson is one of the weakest in the team. I take it you don't watch the games? he is usually one of our better players and has to cover for the rest of our awful defence.

6.) 01 Sep 2016 11:07:18

4-1-3-2.

7.) 01 Sep 2016 11:28:53
We have many plans, you just can't see them because you aren't clued up enough about the team. Players and positions are rotated and tinkered constantly as well as substitutions with the key aim to change something within the game. If you don't change the formation it doesn't mean you don't have a plan b.

8.) 01 Sep 2016 11:31:41
Cee's bang on I remember about 6-8 months ago on here everyone was having a go at Wilson and I had to defend him vigorously I'm glad to see now that he's starting to get some recognition. Always felt RK was the weaker of the two although I don't think he's anywhere near as bad as people make out. Not a single person who criticises them takes into account how we played last season and the majority of the time there opinion is formed on games from last season. Our defence has been solid this season look at Celtic leaking goals all over the place yet its us who are worrying about conceding a lot of goals at s***head. We have been poor going forward and its about time people realised that. Will take another few weeks till we hit our stride but when we do you'll all calm down.

9.) 01 Sep 2016 11:56:09
Ross I agree with what you say most of the time but Kiernan is not a Rangers class CB. He lacks the mental side of the game and his decision making is not up to standard. Wilson will go on to be the best CB in the league when he gets the right partner in beside him and I just hope it's Senderos.
The only time Wilsons had any criticism in his career is by playing bedside Kiernan. The minute the ball is anywhere near Kiernan you can fell the tension in the stands and that is simply not good enough. When the ball went near a Gough or Amoruso you knew they would clear it no matter what and so did the whole crowd. The CB's are meant to instil confidence in the players in front of them, Kiernan instills sheer terror in the players and fans.
If MW decides Keirnan is the better of the two and plays him with Senderos over Wilson I would have to seriously doubt his judgement as every fan I know is dying for the guy to be benched to put us out our misery.

Zelalem really dictated midfield last night, kept things ticking and along side Holt I think that we would've had a few more goal/ opportunities. Morton were struggling to get near the young lad.

MW's philosophy is to play FOOTBALL, Zelalem is exactly the kind of player we need in midfield if that's what we are going to do. He links our defence to our attack.

Some fans crying for him gone, stuck in the stone ages wanting mad ass sliding tackles and all that sha-bang. The top teams in the world don't play like this. We are trying to play attractive football. Scottish football is renowned for being a rough 'scrappy' brand. We are veering away from that. I think this is a very good idea. As eventually when we get to Europe this attractive football will hopefully allow us to make a positive name for ourselves throughout Europe.

On the other hand I also agree that we need a CDM anchor in midfield that basically doesn't move from covering our CB's. This would really benefit Holt and whoever else we hopefully sign for the SPL. next season of course.

Bang on mate .1 of our failings in europe in past seasons is not keeping a hold of the ball warburton wants us to play passing football and keep hold of the ball not 2 passes then lump the ball into the box.

2.) 26 Jan 2016 17:49:14
That's all very well if the other team are playing a similar game, but Morton mixed it up and the boy was out of his comfort zone. I think it was too cauld for the wee sowel. You saw them swarming around him when he was on the ball trying to intimidate him and it worked. I thought he was getting hooked in the first half but that would have put a big dent in the boys confidence. He's ok on lush surfaces on a nice day with plenty of space, but not Greenock on a freezin Monday night.

Along with my post that may or may not be up yet.

I wanna know what departures you would like to see?

Personally.
Clark: for obvious reasons
Law: has had his chances and flattered to deceive at best of times
Templeton: Attitude seems wrong, far too injury prone. Shame because he looked class at Hearts (at times)

On another page, I'd like to see Shiels given another year at SPL level with us. Ball is apparently out of contract at Spurs, wage depending, I wonder if it would be possible to offer him a permanent contract. Same applies to Oduwa, a recent dip in form doesn't hide the fact that he's had the whole stadium on their feet at times.

Just my thoughts.

1.) 15 Dec 2015 13:37:55
Clark, Law and Temps should all go.

Would love to see Ball and Oduwa given contracts, can't see it happening tho.

2.) 15 Dec 2015 12:41:53
Nope ball is definitely going back south, he said so himself that's he's looking forward to going back home when this seasons done.

3.) 15 Dec 2015 19:11:10
Still not sure on Templeton due to injuries and severe lack of coaching under previous management. Not a fan of Clarke or Law even though they too have my sympathy for having to play under McCoist!

Clarke has not shown any of the goal scoring skill he showed at QotS and tends to run around like a headless chicken. Law lacks heart and just does not have the mentality to be a Rangers player. Not the player he was at Motherwell.

This is just my opinion, however:

I don't see why all of a sudden a large portion of fans have turned on Zelalem, the boy knows how to play. He's a real prospect. He's our best passer and quietly keeps the midfield ticking (along with Holt, might i add who is a future Scotland international) .

Anyway, I firmly believe that Zelalem has the silk and cutting edge we need. He fits the exact mold of player MW likes/wants. He's a better option to Nicky Law and Shiels.

We are now a fluid footballing, attacking side. We must fully back this team and management for what has truly been an immense start to the season. Would you honestly go back to how we were playing 2/3/4 years ago? . This is a very young team, with many promising players. Learning a new league and footballing style. We WILL win this league and I am sure of it.

I'm just sick of the team and management being ridiculed for trying to play football the right way. We are heading bang on in the right direction and with the right additions in January and/or summer. We will be a force to be reckoned with.

P. s don't worry about Hibs boys, we all know the amount of bottle that lot possess.

KK great post regarding zelalem he is 19 and pure class he makes playing the game look easy also been impressed by his tracking back and tacking because for his slight build he gets stuck in only negative is I think after creating the space for himself he should take a shot more often other than lookin to slide others in. We should enjoy this lad while we have him because I think he will reach the very top. I am also with u regarding some fans turning on him. I don't get it surely this is exactly the type of player every team is lookin for. the type of player that other teams pay big money for. ( just wish he was ours) I just think getting on the young lads back for a mist place pass isn't helpin our cause. It could maybe sway other real prospect about coming to us . Also been very impressed with holt he looks like another gem. I know he has a Long way to go but reminds me of Paul scholes. Also happy with the manager and the style of play. I maybe a bit over confident but I am also not worried about Falkirk or hibs. I really feel we are on the way up.

2.) 15 Dec 2015 19:14:13
Zetalem shows all the attributes of a quality player of the future. Unfortunately Arsenal will be the ones to reap the benefit. Ideally he would play some games but not all but unfortunately we are severely limited on the playing front and that does not allow us to be flexible with our rating eleven. It also means that the team pretty much picks itself and without competition for places, players become lazy.

3.) 15 Dec 2015 12:46:10
Agreed Gedion Zelalem is only young and is just learning his trade so he will make mistakes but us fans should get behind all the players as their giving 100% in every game, yeah we might drop points but their efforts will hopefully be rewarded come next May.

He has not made this up, unfair criticism. He's talking about a recent tweet from '@SolucoesCertas' on twitter. Stating Eliseu to us is a done deal. Not sure there is much truth in it as the account only has 25 followers, mostly made up of Rangers fans. So I am calling bull on this on

Unfair to so readily jump on Papabear for posting this 'rumour' albeit his use of 'media' was slightly exaggerated.

surely it's a loan deal? boy has potential, would probably cut it and championship level, with a decent squad around him. like we finally have.

Hooly - I think you missed the point I was making, I'm fully aware that we'd struggle to pay 150k a week, slightly paradoxical. Mind you replacing Nicky Clark with John Terry is an ideal like for like swap. Similar wages too probably!

Hooly - Messi seems more realistic to me too! he's only on around 300k a week more than Terry. Definitely not the best comparison, but hey it's 1st April.

M3 - I agree mostly.

However, I feel that Wes is a quality keeper, he's made many class saves to keep us in games or save us points. He's still very young for a keeper and MW wants him to play from the back, this is classed as risky by many fans but its the best way for Rangers to play.

I agree about the two CB's I definitely think Kiernan is the stronger between them, however the shakiness of our CB's also is down to how far our full backs push up the pitch. I honestly think to sign a CB suitable for essentially playing two at the back will cost quite a bit sadly.

You've got a keeper playing 5, 10 or 20 yard passes at the back that, I don't see why this renders him a 'bomb scare' 90% of the time they work and allow us to continue passing from the back. I'd much rather have a keeper willing to play from the back. There has also been quite a few times we've caught teams on the break with a very accurate throw or drop kick.
