I see Joey Barton has scored on his return to Burnley. Did we let him go too early or was he just no trying at all when he was up here?

No we got rid of a bad egg. don't think because he scored a goal in a game we've made a mistake

2.) 14 Jan 2017 18:32:28
Halliday set his dummy out because he didn't like what Barton evidently said and Warburton sided with Halliday. Perhaps if Barton had been playing well he might have been listened to!

3.) 14 Jan 2017 19:06:41
Do we know that's what happened for a cert?

4.) 14 Jan 2017 19:50:51
I asked the question because he scored after coming on as a sub in one of the top leagues in Europe without having kicked a ball competitively for 4 months. No doubt he will be shouting his mouth off on twitter later about it.

I know it was only one goal but that is more than he done for us against poorer opposition. I agree with both of you he wasn't playing well enough for the manager to do a u turn and he probably wanted out and would cause trouble to force the club to take action.

5.) 14 Jan 2017 19:50:52
To be honest I think Warburton thought we could have challenged Celtic hence him saying 2nd is nowhere for Rangers and they took a gamble offering big money to Barton and Kranjcar it became apparent early on that we weren't good enough and they saw a chance to get rid of Barton.

No matter what you think of Barton 8 games isn't enough to say how good or bad he was and I think the whole situation could have been resolved had Warburton really wanted to.

6.) 14 Jan 2017 20:18:42
Spot on tom. He told mw and a halliday a few home truths and they didn't like it. He's certainly got previous but sean dyche and the burnley players don't seem to have a problem with it and he will be a key player for them this season in a far superior league than the spl.

7.) 14 Jan 2017 20:33:54
if he had only done a proper pre season and warbs used him properly he would have been an asset on the park. off the park he is a total mouth piece and is cringeworthy every time he opens his trap. good ridance

8.) 14 Jan 2017 21:24:04
Playing now in much easier and overratedl leagie is the truth of the matter.

9.) 14 Jan 2017 17:58:50
Defo not trying, he quickly realised he didn't want to be here so he worked his ticket

10.) 14 Jan 2017 18:39:49
Barton should have replaced Halliday in the defensive mid role no doubt about it. I know its unfair as Halliday is playing out of position but a fully fit Barton has loads more to offer than what we have at the moment.

I think this was probably his frustration after the old firm 5-1 game and gave a few a character reference and told them in no uncertain terms they weren't as good as some of them believe they are.

Our loss in my opinion and the situation was terribly mismanaged.

11.) 14 Jan 2017 22:54:55
An easy league? your having a laugh the spl is one of the worst leagues in europe. Take out celtic and it's on a par with league of Ireland you only have to look at dundalk getting further than any Scottish team in Europa league and there basically a part time team. Epl might be over rated but I know what league I'd rather watch. (If rangers are not playing)

12.) 14 Jan 2017 23:15:00
Hooly you must be having a laugh, when was the last decent English prem game you saw? Totally over rated, and over priced league in the world, spl might not be the best of quality, but I've watched some cracking games this year. Stop knocking our game for a change.

13.) 15 Jan 2017 03:34:17
Barton's not under any pressure now. Burnley were expected to be relegated while Rangers are expected to win every game no matter how limited the team. Barton couldn't take the pressure, he's under none now so he will be much happier.

14.) 15 Jan 2017 08:27:09
Spurs v chelsea last Monday night.

15.) 15 Jan 2017 07:57:32
Take out Celtic and it's a very competitive league. Maybe not have the best players (which English leagues don't either) but just as competitive.

16.) 15 Jan 2017 11:24:17
Ya and on a level with league of Ireland.

17.) 15 Jan 2017 13:01:59
Alberta, you are 100% correct and that is the problem, the rest of the teams, ourselves included are dire in terms of quality sides that could compete in the EPL. That is where we need to get back to; it is a nonsense that a club with a support the size of ours is so poor in our pursuit of the league championship.

Anyone else think Josh Magennis would be a good option up front?
He isn't the most prolific but he has the ability to bring other players into the game. Plus he is a big unit and would give us a bit more of a physical presence up front. He knows the Scottish game and was the main reason Killie beat Falkirk in the playoffs?

On that wonderful display, I'd take anyone of those players, heroes everyone of them to the last man, hope Chesney was watching and see what a good manager can do with average players, so proud of the boys, btw did u see all the rangers tops in the crowd, amazing support, well done the boys.

Does anyone know if Ryan Hardie is available for selection for the final?

I know Dundee Utd got fined etc. this week for playing someone back from their loan but that was under SPFL rules not the SFA. Plus Hardie featured for us against Cowdenbeath so no issue of being cuptied.

At the very least he would be a great option from the bench for the last 20 minutes.

I'd assume we've seeked clarification on this but i'd rather not risk fine or retrospective punishment in playing him.

2.) 14 May 2016 11:52:34
I don't think he is which is a pity. With Forrester out and Ball suspended I think we won't be able to fill the bench.

3.) 14 May 2016 16:13:59
Biffo316

The bench is a concern of mine for next week as we only seem to have midfield cover now that Ball is out.

As we are playing St Mirren tomorrow I was wondering if anyone thinks Stevie Mallan would be a decent addition to the squad? He is contracted till 2018 so nor sure what they would want for him.

I have been impressed with him this season, he has only just turned twenty as well so it could be money well spent.

So winning the Uefa cup makes them a no history club? You can also add in the FA cup, English League and managed by the two greatest English football managers in Ramsay and Robson. They might not be the most fashionable club but most clubs in England would be happy to have those achievements. They are my English team so felt I had to comment.

I thought Paterson was out for 10 months? I think he is also out of contract in the summer as well. There was talk of Hearts offering him a new deal otherwise he would be without a club when is back from injury and not sure if any club would want to sign him without him proving his fitness, although that hasn't stopped us in the past lol.

They took a ball from each pot and then placed them in a bowl, rolled them round a bit and first one picked out was at home in the first leg.

He got them to the play offs after promotion. He left because of the way the chairman wanted to buy players based on stats. There was always the possibility we would get turned over today but all of a sudden the manager is a dud? He his clearly restricted as to the type of player he can buy and is trying to rebuild the club while competing against a Sellick team who have much greater spending power. I would much rather start building from here bringing on younger players and put up with a few years of pain than start spending cash we clearly don't have but that won't be good enough for out fans as they dmeans immediate success. Write this off as a bad day at the office as I have seen much better gers teams get pumped at the piggery.

I posted in June that I thought he would be a decent signing. Strong and quick and would give us options at free kicks/ corners. You could see how important he was to Kilmarnock in the playoffs. He has never been prolific but maybe playing for a team that creates a lot more chances would change that.

All these players performing well on the big stage and after that performance could mean more teams in for them. If we are interested in any of them let's hope the lure of Rangers is enough.
