The Davis signing is a strange one for me.
He's averaged 70 minutes in the games he's played this season - a drop of 10% on last seasons average.
Of his 33 games he's played, Gio only played him 13 times ( played more under Gerrard this season ) .
He was also available for a further 21 games under Gio but either wasn't in the squad or was left on the bench.

I personally don’t understand it either thought he was a way. I just hope we get a few signings that will enhance the starting 11 as that’s what’s been missing from last couple of windows.

Our results and overall performances improved once Davis was fit and playing lol done a lot better than the likes off sands etc when we were dropping points for fun.

Poor decision by the club keeping him imo, he probably won't play a single 90 minute match this season and paying him 10 k a week doesn't make sense, that money should have been given to someone else.

Strange one for me aswell mph
My only Reasonable thinking is he will simply be 4th choice centre mid as u know what u get with him and the following year we feel the likes of McCann and the other lad who wore 8 for b team is it McKinnon? He will be ready to step into the 11 when required.
I think that makes sense.

Honestly It’s a very strange and disappointing decision.

Mark how many 90 minute games will jack play then?

10k a week is hardly an amazing wage. How our fans have turned on Davis is baffling. Still does a job for club and country.

Why is it a strange one? Davis is a quality player.

Got to assume Gio and Wilson know what they r doing

Goldson is a great deal.

As we need about 5 players to cover our 2 deep lying mids for the season.
Lundstram is one. Jack will play when fit and there is no certainty Kamsra will stay. We should bleed in McCann but not rely too heavily so if he and Davis can get 25-30 games between them then great.

This is a guy who has 134 caps for his country. He's pretty much seen and done it all. His experience and professionalism will be so important in helping guys like Lowry and McCann develop - he won't be a starter but he'll be able to support those young players and help them along.

I think it's a sound decision to keep Davis. Personally, given the choice between keeping him or Greegs as a player, I'd choose Davis as I think he is still playing consistently to a very high level. He's a very good squad player to have available for next season.

Tango nobody has turned on him at all. but there comes a time players must move on. We need to improve squad or it will be 2nd place again.

Agree John, Goldson a great piece of business. A few on here won’t agree though, having one good season out of 4 and being over rated and good riddance blah blah blah.

15.) 01 Jun 2022
01 Jun 2022 21:11:49
Of course you are correct on both counts John mate.
Cheers.

Not a strange one for me regarding wee davo getting a new 1 year deal There will be times when davo will come on and change big games and that ability is worth its weight in gold guys and wins leagues and cups simple as that because the wee guy is still quality and of course fit.

Laudrup1972 very few i'd imagine, I think jack offers us more than Davis in that midfield, I like Jack and lundstrum as a midfield pairing, I don't understand how a player that played so little under gio got a new contract but as john has posted gio and ross know what they are doing.

I agree John25, that goldson signing a new 4 year deal to stay with us is a brilliant deal .

Davis will be on a low wage for the extra year and brings a lot to the squad and dressing room. Good back-up player, I have no issues with this.

20.) 01 Jun 2022
01 Jun 2022 21:59:13
It makes sense he'll offer competition for kamara even lundstrum and will help younger lads like lowry and McConnell also won't be on a huge wage.

21.) 01 Jun 2022
01 jun 2022 22:11:52
he will play in certain cup games I've no doubt about that, well worth a season, imo.

22.) 01 Jun 2022
01 Jun 2022 22:27:30
Tango who has turned on Davis? No one has.

23.) 01 Jun 2022
01 Jun 2022 22:34:43
You don’t move on one a your most consistent players just because he’s old you move on players who aren’t playing well or can’t stay fit if anyone should go should be jack injured again and other than at goal in cup final has been below par all season.

24.) 01 Jun 2022
01 Jun 2022 22:39:33
Firstly, Conor Goldson is a great bit of business, I want to see him and Souter as our Central Defensive 1st choice next season. Steven Davis brings a lot to the dressing room, he will ensure our young guys prosper, we need to let our Management Team get on and do their business, they know better than anyone what's needed.

25.) 01 Jun 2022
01 Jun 2022 22:56:36
Davis is class, you don’t get over 100 caps for nothing, what is the saying
xxxxxxxx but class is for ever.

26.) 02 Jun 2022

Form is temporary class is permanent.

You say that Rangers played a lot better with Davis in the team, Tango?
He played the full 90 minutes in both legs when we were knocked out the CL by Malmo.
He never played against Dortmund, Braga or Leipzig in the latter stages of the EL – some of our best performances of the season.
He played in the defeat to Dundee Utd.
He played in the draw to Motherwell.
He was replaced by Ryan jack in the Scottish Cup Final who went on to change the match.
He came on as a late sub against Hearts when we conceded a late equaliser.
Yes there has been some decent performances in other matches.
But Father Time stands still for no man.
And you say move on Jack?
It has no correlation to Davis receiving a new deal.
Considering Jack already has a year left.

02 jun 2022 08:01:03
well said irvger, my thoughts exactly, davis is a long way from done, he wasn’t right last season, and he also had a long bout of cv, he’s well worth a squad place on a meagre wage, he’s a skipper of rangers and deserves the utmost respect,

29.) 02 Jun 2022
02 Jun 2022 08:27:50
Get this age thing to one side guys!
It's only a number and wee davo easily fit enough to get another 1 year deal at rangers, not to mention the full package davis brings to rangers A no brainer for me and undoubtedly the correct decision to give him a new 1 year deal .
