Staunch defence of John Souttar from Connor Goldson this morning in his presser. Whether you agree with his comments or not that's exactly what i want to see from our players. Hopefully give Souttar a boost of confidence, not been the easiest of times for the boy recently.

With what has come to light about his brother he should've been protected better by the management team and given time off his duties.

Good godsweep why should that happen, we all deal with death, some in different ways.

Possibly. I'd imagine they would have spoken to him about his personal situation. Perhaps he wanted to keep involved to take his mind of it? We don't know.

Exactly fruit bear, very sadly Souttar knew his brother would die early, apparently one off the reasons he stayed in Scotland.

I’m sure he has been getting the support he needed, wanted from Hearts then Rangers.

I'm sure soutter sat down with Gio and said he wanted to play? But some always think the negative ?‍♂️.

Correct barrowlad, unbelievable.

I know that you love to find the bad and be as negative as you possibly can sweep but this is really low and shows the depths you are willing to go just to help you in your sad quest. Using the death of a players family member just so you can take a cheap shot at the club is very very sad indeed. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Most people get a period of compassionate leave after losing a close relative. I find the responses from John25 to be distasteful at best.

Have to agree with Sweep. regardless if he wanted to play or not, The management team should have told Souter he was not playing and to take some compassionate leave to grieve properly with his family.

This is what I mean. Far too many negative posts on here. We need to lighten up, be positive, stop slagging each other, or our players off. I took a look at the Celtic Banter page (I showered straight afterwards, honest) . They're talking about how they're going to win the League/ treble and how many gazillion Dembele dollars their players are going to make them, no TV slagging their team or each other off.

When my brother died I wanted to work, I spent 2 days at home drinking Polish vodka and and sleeping and more vodka, I had to get back to work or I'd have went doolally.
My brothers death was sudden (heart attack) if he was seriously ill and I knew it was coming down the line I'd have had time to get used to the idea.
Nobody at Glasgow Rangers would have made John Souter play, that would have been his decision and he probably had to beg to play.
A woman at my work was off for 3 months when her dog died.
Everybody is different when coping with the death of a loved one.
Live long and prosper.

DotheBouncy John is anything but distasteful! Have a word ?‍♂️.

Got to agree DTB. The call should have been taken out of his hands as more than likely his head would not have been in a good place. Most employers would make the call regarding this!

John is true what he is saying everyone deals with death in a different way Soutter obviously spoke too gvb and must have told him he wants too play, this is no time for getting on Soutters back he needs our full support, i feel he will be a very good signing for us.

One size doesn't fit all in these circumstances. My step dad was seriously ill for couple months before he passed. Didn't miss a day of work, outside the odd half day for a hospital visit. Totally my choice and kept my mind sane. It was when I left the office and was alone with my thoughts that I started to struggle. I trust the club to have the right conversation and support for the player. PS not a jot wrong with anything John has said. Not sure what that's all about.

It is my opinion the wrong call was made even If the boy said he was ok to play, however, I do believe our management team saw this and that's why they took him off. It can be difficult to make a decision on this If the boy said he wanted/ needed to play as the management would have to respect his decision, but I'm glad they seen it wasn't working and got him off. For the boy's own sake, and sanity, I hope he is not picked tomorrow night as he needs time to grieve. Regardless of how long you know it's coming, loss of a loved one is always very difficult to deal with. My brother went to bed a healthy man, but never woke up, whereas my oldest friend died a few months back which we knew was going to happen for a while, but trust me, both bloody hurt just as bad.

Lads, this is not the time, or subject to be arguing amongst ourselves, please have a word. If someone disagrees with another poster on this, then let's not revert to petty digs and keep it respectful for big Souttar and his family.

Its done.

Rightly or wrongly we started Souttar.

We came out the other end with 3 points and with a number of question marks over Souttars ability to step up.

From what I've seen, heard and read on him I have every faith he'll make the step up and be an important asset to our squad.

On that pitch, if Sands was picked ahead of him, no one would gave questioned it.
Let's let it go and move on to Tuesday.
