Let's be honest here, we got our arses handed to us last night, and regardless of how poor the penalty decision was, var never beat us, we managed to do that all on our own.
Last year when Malmo beat us in the first leg I never felt we could pull it back at home, and I feared we were out. This time, however, I still think we can get through, but it's going to take one helluva performance to do that. The whole team was poor. Gio picked the wrong players, and definitely went with the wrong tactics, and although he was raging at the players, I hope he's man enough to admit that a lot of that was on him too. 3 defensive minded midfielders starting?! What was he expecting with that? A really poor performance all round, but his anger at the end shows me he won't let that happen again next week. Last year after Malmo it felt different. Gerrard, in my opinion, knew he was off soon, so I never got the feeling his heart was in to turn it around, but I do with Gio. A change in the starting 11, and a change in tactics, and we go through. We need to go direct, get all over them from the start, but our defence needs to be switched on. And for God's sake, stop giving the ball away so cheaply. Now, I don't give Tav a hard time like some, and I've stuck up for him on many an occasion, but there was a passage of play early on where he gave the ball away about 4 times in the space of a minute. That's not on! He even had the audacity to try a back heel at the end, and was lucky the ref blew up I think for a foul. Tav, like the rest, looked totally lost and devoid of all ideas while playing like a headless chicken.
Time to dust ourselves down and get the finger out. Flower this up anyway you like, but If we don't qualify for the champs league proper, then it is a bloody disaster, both on the pitch, and off it.

Total agree and its even worse when our manager shows no emotion sitting down nearly all of the match. Should he not of accepted the blame at TV interview.

Another decent run out for our players, especially our new signings. Friendlies are nothing else but a chance for players to get some time on the pitch, gauge fitness, and give the new guys some minutes in the squad, they're not some benchmark to how the season is going to pan out.

How can anyone seriously gauge what sort of season a particular player is going to have, or what dangers lay ahead If the same player continues to be picked when we get down to the serious business, from a friendly where most are only going through the motions? If a player is to be judged, then judge him during the actual season, and If he isn't cutting it, then questions need asked.

From what I've read, it looks like Souttar, Borna, and the usual suspect in Kent, are in for a rough ride, and all from playing in a few Friendlies!? Priceless! Look, I've done it myself and handed out a verbal booting to certain players, although, not after a few friendlies that meant nothing, but I have done it. Last season I gave Borna it tight after the game in the east end, and I was pretty hard on him, but until we get into the real games, all the players need our backing and support, and as I said, If they're not cutting it then questions need asked.

If we have to criticise, then it must be constructive and not just taking aim at a player we don't like, or think isn't good enough. Big Souttar and Borna are international players, so they must be doing something right! Our players deserve respect, and even though they're not above criticism, some of the stuff thrown at them is well OTT and not needed.

This season, just like the last one, will have its ups and downs, twists and turns, but it's there for the taking and I know we can do it. The signs are positive, so we should all be too.

Personally i hate sensible posts like this because you can only nod your head in agreement, where as the mad posts you can laugh in disbelief and give the poster pelters.

Great post Down in the tube station AM?Our club captain james tavernier has been the whipping boy for several years on here with the same posters mate ? I think with a few it was because young nathan patterson wasn't able to dislodge tav in both gerrard and gio's right back slot, which for me says it all?
Because quite simply i agree with both gerrard and gio that tav is better than nathan patterson, no ifs buts or maybes about it for me ?
Tav's numbers are out of this world for a right back and you just don't go around dropping your terrific club captain, because you've got a talented young right back waiting in the wings as his understudy! Some i think were just wanting tav dropped for the sake of it and you never should do that ?.

Call me what you like, but Borna is sufferring the same as Tavernier did - being upfield when play breaks down. if a "wing back" ventures up field HE MUST RECEIVE THE BALL. Barasic can be supporting Kent and overlapping him, but Kent cuts inside and loses the ball, obviously Barasic will be out of position and a midfielder has to cover for him. Not Barasic's fault he didn't receive the ball.

I totally agree with you bluetoon but some just don't understand the way gio wants our 2 full backs to play? The onus is on either of our 2 centre halfs or our defensive mid covering tav and borna when they bomb up attacking on their respective sides ? It's very easy to understand imo but some just don't understand the football tactics that gerrard and now gio wants us to play ?Try and think about the whole thing guys instead of just constantly pointing the finger at some ?.

John, If this is true, and there's a chance he could make it, then that is fantastic news. Our team is a much better team with Alfie in it. Fingers crossed!

I don't know anything about this boy, but It would appear that a few on here rate him. Would he be a straight replacement for Kamara in the same position? I know we've only played friendlies, but I thought Kamara has stood out, and we all know he can play. Last season wasn't the best for Kamara, but during our title winning season, the boy was one of our best players who I believe can still do a job for us.

As many have pointed out on here, Roofe would never have been a Rangers player If he wasn't injury prone and had the right mindset. A physical injury, in most cases, is easier to manage and repair than something which is more psychological. If the stories are true, and most of Roofe's problems are in his head, and he is unwilling to admit this and sort, then we'd be flogging a dead horse trying to sort him. A fantastic player when fully fit, with a sharp footballing brain, who knows where the goal is, but sound like he has a head full of broken biscuits. A real shame, but unfortunately in football, it's not that rare of an occurrence.

Jack needs removed from the starting 11. I agree Barrowlad, he looks off the pace.

JM, in my opinion, is a good backup, but that's it. He's a decent keeper, but we need better than decent for our number 1. McGregor is still the best keeper at Rangers by a distance.

I'm concentrating on tonight's opponent before thinking about this. These Belgians are no mugs, but we're more than capable of beating them.

It is my opinion the wrong call was made even If the boy said he was ok to play, however, I do believe our management team saw this and that's why they took him off. It can be difficult to make a decision on this If the boy said he wanted/ needed to play as the management would have to respect his decision, but I'm glad they seen it wasn't working and got him off. For the boy's own sake, and sanity, I hope he is not picked tomorrow night as he needs time to grieve. Regardless of how long you know it's coming, loss of a loved one is always very difficult to deal with. My brother went to bed a healthy man, but never woke up, whereas my oldest friend died a few months back which we knew was going to happen for a while, but trust me, both bloody hurt just as bad.

Lads, this is not the time, or subject to be arguing amongst ourselves, please have a word. If someone disagrees with another poster on this, then let's not revert to petty digs and keep it respectful for big Souttar and his family.
