Hi all, while all is quiet on the football front I wanted to ask a hypothetical question.

Now I know I shouldn’t have to say this but I am not saying there is any rumours or chance. I am not saying we should or could get him, but for fun….

If Man U release C. Ronaldo would (in this fantasy scenario) you take him at Ibrox, and if so what kind of impact do you think he would have?

GymRunner

1.) 15 Nov 2022 10:25:44
The impact would probably be liquidation, the wages he commands would finish us.

2.) 15 Nov 2022 10:56:00
His profile alone would prob pay his wages.

3.) 15 Nov 2022 11:20:02
It definitely wouldn't rangers812.

4.) 15 Nov 2022 11:39:03
No thanks. Another finished overpaid player with an attitude problem. Just what we need. We couldn't afford to pay him a week.

5.) 15 Nov 2022 11:43:12
Ronaldo on 26 million a year plus bonus.

6.) 15 Nov 2022 14:10:06
CR has always been fit and healthy - - would be interesting to see how long he takes to get a long term injury playing for the Rangers :-)

I know there are varying outlooks voiced on here (both positive and negative) . I consider myself middle of the road, maybe leaning towards the positive. However, I’m sure we all see ourselves as “realists”.
For the record I am NOT happy at how we are playing. Having said this I think there are a lot of further points that we ALL need to consider before considering where we are at as a club.
New recruits – Have they been performing at a level that has brought us forward – No. However (outside of injuries) there have been several issues that could not be planned for. I think we all need to remember the Lundstram Factor. Give these guys time to settle in and get up to speed and settled. People are considering Yilmaz not to have settled however he is here and getting bedded in. Also, no one can deny Barasic has upped his game. This means that the money invested could result in us getting 2 valuable left backs in our squad.
Lost best players – Have we lost some of our best? Yes. Have they been replaced by equal quality? No. However are Tillman/ Yilmaz etc as good as the raw talents these guys were when they joined? I think so. We have ALL said for years that we, as a club in a smaller league, need to work in an “Ajax” model. Bleed young players and recruit rough diamonds and sell higher. This is exactly what this is! We wanted a few experienced heads in squad to support their progress and we have this.
Younger Players – I read the other day that “if we think we will be getting more than 3 of our current crop getting into first team then we are kidding ourselves”? Getting 3 youths through into first team is a GREAT output. In recent times we have sold 2 young players with limited first team experience for nearly 40m. Add that to the quality players like King, McCann and Lowry to name a few bodes well for the future.
What needs to improve – Well I believe that as part of our recruitment we need to focus on, not only quality, however a certain characteristic. We lack grit and drive. We are great when it’s going well but any time we falter we tend to spiral. The arms go up in the air and they all bleat about how hard done to they are. We need someone that can rally the troops and change the attitudes of the weaker minded. We need someone on the park that can get people re-focusing and going again. This is sorely missing in our squad.
I believe that we also need to be more adaptable and tactical. I wish we would be less open with who is available the day before matches. It’s great for our fans but must help the opposition with their planning? Also I get that GVB has “his” preferred belief of formation etc. However on occasions we should look to maximise output of our most on-form or available players. E. G. When our wingers are off form and we have 2 good strikers we should be considering a 3-5-2. This would allow us to rest Kent for example and give Morelos and Colak time against smaller teams. This is not only good for the players to get time on or off but also makes us harder to plan against as we are less predictable.

Sorry for the length of this but have been sitting on this for a while.

Sorry my friend Barisic upped his game!
His defending recently has been very poor still.
Doesn’t get near close enough to wingers crossing the ball, and body shape all wrong when he tucks in, he is too closed off and should be more aware of what is around him.
Maybe Helander covered for him in the past,
His best attributes is his crossing going forward, he gives me the fear defending when we play a good team, was poor again at Celtic park and so was the whole back line.

2.) 20 Sep 2022 16:34:42
trueblue, i think Borna has been one of our best players this season, I'm glad we didn't sell him in the summer.

3.) 20 Sep 2022 16:35:54
I tend to agree with most of what you said GymRunner, good post mate.

4.) 20 Sep 2022 16:50:21
Gymrunner superb post.

5.) 20 Sep 2022 16:56:33
Don't get me wrong TrueB. I'm not saying he has been brilliant. Just a lot better than before.
However I will take this as the only criticism menas you agree with other points?

6.) 20 Sep 2022 17:57:49
Great post.

7.) 20 Sep 2022 18:03:42
Gymrunner I agree with everything you have said, started writing something very similar then gave up. Took 2 or 3 years to mould Gerard team. Think the grit was why Davis, Arfield and Shagger got another year. Lawrence brought a bit if it before his injury. Gio seems to have been flexible with shape at the back, between 4, 3 and 5 at the back so would like to see this up top. Borna and Tav our 2 best wide players which would fit 352 or similar.

8.) 20 Sep 2022 18:08:12
Very good post gym and u r correct re Borna.

9.) 20 Sep 2022 18:28:23
We all knew Tav and Barisic weren’t good defenders but the bonus was their crosses, penalties, goals and assists. However, this season they have defended badly and not contributed as mentioned.

10.) 20 Sep 2022 18:46:03
Good points raised Gym runner. I've been quiet last couple of days, respecting the loss of our monarch. Borna has, improved his levels and has, possibly been one of our best performers. . Just feel we need to up the pace of midfield to front mem as we sometimes look stifled and bereft of creativity.

11.) 20 Sep 2022 18:52:57
True blue, we all know how good tav and borna can be when on form and attacking, but both of them are continually caught out when defending. I suppose that's part of the modern game and we have to trust that tactics wise, gio knows what he wants from them. I do find it frustrating watching it at times, but as my son tells me, I'm "old fashioned "!

12.) 20 Sep 2022 20:01:06
Quality post Gymrunner, you make good points.

13.) 20 Sep 2022 22:07:47
Arthur Numan and Gary Stevens. They could defend ?.

14.) 20 Sep 2022 23:48:18
352 has worked a treat for us recently. Napoli dortmund examples.

15.) 21 Sep 2022 08:50:51
352 worked a treat via Napoli. Having a laugh, one did not play two up top. Two we got pumped.

16.) 21 Sep 2022 09:48:30
John there is no point even replying to him, we played Alfredo up top and kent played behind him even Stevie wonder could see that but not coldo. He is just saying it to try and get a reaction. 3-0
Defeat but it worked ?.

17.) 21 Sep 2022 12:44:22
I'm with you GymRunner. If we follow the Ajax model than we will get to where Ajax are today. I also agree with you regarding the young players Rangers have on the books already and have bought over the summer. By the way, Stewart Robinson was writing in the Evening Times that Rangers will only receive around £20m from CL football, not the £40m that we have been hearing about for months. So, forget about the CL. We have an Ajax type management and player pool available to us and so just support them for the rest of the season and we'll see what happens then. The capitulation against Celtic was disgraceful but don't empty everything out just because of that.

18.) 21 Sep 2022 12:55:34
I’m with u storm, don’t always agree with you but absolutely respect you.

19.) 21 Sep 2022 13:55:47
The sending off changed the game, up until then 352 was working a treat?.

20.) 21 Sep 2022 21:14:11
Same John just ignore the man with many names he is irrelevant.

Verdant I don't have definitive evidence but we also don't have definitive evidence any of this is true.
However if we are assuming this IS true. Then it would become evident that a contract is signed. Why?
Well in order for us to agree a move in January we would (most likely) make sure the pre-contract is signed to ensure there is a point in having this discussion and giving us the best position to bargain from.
Of course the whole thing could be dogcrap.
Whether we are penny pinching or not? Consider the facts that this player has been sent to reserves or train on his own (or whatever) he is not in first team plans so, for Liege, he has zero value and is taking a wage. As such, IMO, they are chancing their arm asking for more money.
That's my thoughts for what they are worth.

GoFor you are right nothing guaranteed but for every "Kane" there are 100's that do happen as true to their word!
If the boy is the type to go back on his word then is he the type of character you want in the club?
I know what you are saying about Beale saying stuff but long may it continue as I like the honesty and transparency. Also he did say that he had done his bit so yes it puts us in a very slight worse poistion but it also heaps the pressure on Wilson/ Board which can only force their hand that bit more.

I think this will happen. My opinion is that it is "agreed" but not signed fully. I think that there may be small things to iron out regarding contract to come in summer. Then once this is signed off we will be in a stronger position to argue release with Norwich.

As it stands it's "we want him, so can we get him now? " that's ropey at best. Better to go in with "he is coming to us for definite, when you release him is the only debate? " They will have a player they generally don't use now and will def be leaving, worth very little basically.

Welcome BlueS2,
personally I don't see Big Dunc coming as he stated he wanted to go out on his own as a manager as the reason he left last role.
Thanks for sharing your input though.

I feel for Barasic. He is definitely no world beater but he is not our worst player by any stretch and consistently shows.
He is putting a lot of balls in (not all brilliant) but I think this is due to being the ONLY real source of penetration.
I love Tav but he hasn't taken on a player and beat him regularly for a long time. He seems hesitant to try and burst past someone.
With Tillman out yesterday they put al ot of focus on stopping Kent (where they could) .
So Barasic and Sakala the main routes to penalty box.
This is not a criticism of anyone but when was the last decent cross from the right? When did we move into the box through the middle successfully breaking the lines?
That only leaves the left and crossing no matter how good/ bad the opportunity.

Cantwell, Davies and Pitu.

Cost minimal then these in Summer.

Onomah
Sanderson
Whittaker
Cho/ Stewart (depending on cost)
Nisbet

Keeping Kent a must. 2 strikers is dependent on whether Morelos goes.

Hoping he smashes it. If many Scots do well over there the Scottish league has to become more valuable overall, right?

Totally agree Sweep. I rarely agree with you and fine your negativity (amongst others) a frustration, but I remind myself that we all want the same thing. A successful club.
It just seems you don't want this sometimes - ?.
Here's to 56!

Options for CF?

Kevin Rodriguez, 22, from Ecuador 2nd div, squad member at World Cup. Bit of a risk but for 3rd/ 4th choice and only valued at 300k?

Lorenzo Lucca, 22, on loan at Ajax but owned by Pisa, guy is a monster and would bust most SPL defenders. May cost £5m upwards though.

Free options in Summer that may be reachable - Jordan Ayew (new rod Wallace anyone? ), Josh Maja, Chuba Akpom, Ben Brereton diaz, Michael Olunga.

Not saying they would all ork but just wanted to share.
