14 May 2023 11:33:19 I think if both Sakala and motondo work on their ball control n finishing n passing they could become pivotal players for us, both have pace to burn, hence running so fast i think that's why they are losing it so much as less time to react, Sakala is getting better. N we have only seen snippets of matondo.

Agree BD, we cannot afford the finished article at the level we want so we have to identify potential talent and develop.

For 32 games of our league season, where teams come to sit in and make us break them down, pace and no footballing intelligence is pretty useless for us. There's never any space to use it.

This is why players like Cantwell and Hagi are vital, and Aribo/ Tillman before them.

And why Kent, who has pace but only marginally more quality than Matondo/ Sakala, has been pretty woeful for us.

Matondo, in his defence, we haven't seen enough of to know if he can develop/ has the ability to improve his intelligence, but Sakala hasn't improved his in 2 seasons where he's played a lot of football.

If either of them, based on what we have seen so far, are first team starters for us going forward then IMO we'll be having the exact same conversation at this time next year as to why we're so far behind Celtic. They're not the quality that is required.

I'd be willing to give Matondo more time, if we had to, given we've hardly seen him, but Sakala I think it's time to move on. And if I'm being honest, my preference would be to move on Matondo as well, if we can. Lowry is 20 next season and has more of what we need, intelligence wise, than both. I'd rather see him play more than either, so we can see what he develops into.

I’m more than happy for them to be impact players, we need better all round game from our front 3 players. They did well yesterday work rate wise and the threat of pace is always frightening for opposing players.

Mark, DK your both pessimists in extreme. Think both very near finished article. Once Matondo gets ammunition from right side midfield I await with joy. He can beat men for fun and when he realises importance of where ball goes i'm drivelling. Yesterday he had tic in circles.

Matondo is on 28k a week he should be a 1st team regular on that wage. The guy isn't of the standard required and never will be.

I kinda agree bluedreamer, if you look at how we we played they were both vital. Their pace kept Celtic's defence low which allowed us to step up. McCrorie's ability to come off his line also let us step up. Their midfield was isolated because their back line was pinned back. I would keep both Sakala and Matondo as they are both another option to how we can play and it will be interesting to see how they develop. Also because sakala and matondo kept their backline so low this forced Jota and abada to play deeper which meant Tav and Yilmaz could get forward, and Celtic couldn't cope with this.

Clearly we are not a better team with Alfie or Kent or Barasic etc. McCrorie should be given a chance to be number 1, although I do think we will need to sign another GK as McLaughin is not even a decent back up. Ridvan Raskin Cantwell have established that they are starters and we should build around them. Thought Souttar showed why would we should get rid of Ben Davies.

Massive summer in terms of a clear out and new signings but yesterday's result and performance has added that little bit of excitement to our rebuild.

Sakala has 21 goals in under 2 seasons as a squad player and folk want rid as he's "not good enough" a few of these same people not long ago were desperate for Ryan kent yo stay, who has scored 5 in the same time playing every game ?.

Said all along Souttar if fit would be a great player for us, the boy wind his fair share in both boxes and can read the game well, I wouldn't be disappointed if him and Goldson formed the heart of our defence next season with raskin and cantwell forming a pivotal part of our spine. Yesterday the game plan worked, Celtic never like teams being aggressive pushing and pressing and getting in their faces, yet too often teams allow them to play their game and dictate the ball, so credit to Beale and the players yesterday, and hopefully we can build quality around that spine and kick on.

So Souttar showed why we should get rid of Ben Davies? He`s had one good game playing on the left where he is not comfortable and we should get rid of Davies and start the season with two centre halves, one of whom is injury prone? Wouldn`t a better plan be, to keep Davies as one pf our options and sign another left sided centre back which would give us 4 (plus King) and lots of cover for injures and loss of form?

We played well and won yesterday, that's all it was, let's calm down with some of the talk, matondo and sakala are never rangers class, if I'm being generous maybe sakala could stay as a fringe player, ridvan played well yesterday but need to see more of him before we can say he's a cast iron first pick, his size worries me a bit, the big plus for me from yesterday was that if (and its a big if) souttar can stay fit then him and goldson could be a good pairing, he's strong, wins balls in the air, no nonsense and can also play when he has to, was very impressed.

What surprises me is that we wax lyrical about Celtics wide players.

This season Sakalas goals and assists are better than both Maeda and Abadas.

More often than not, I don't think we set up or play in a way that plays to Sakala, or Matondos, strengths.

So if MBs way of playing is going to be the narrow 4-2-3-1 we've been seeing - then there is no use keeping either.

However if we're going to play with pace and width then I'd keep both as they're more than good enough for the SPL.

The guys done better than so much of our big hitters this season ie morelos n kent

He gives 110% everytime he misses lots of chances because somtimes he creates so many or gets into good positions too miss them

Hes scored vital goals for us

He is very underated

All i hear is he or they ain't rangers class
Kent n morelos ain't been this class for a long time n they get away with it yet folk stick by them

You have a player in sakala that's direct, shoots, scores, gets into good positions, and is a workhorse

So please sombody tell n explain this rangers class so many rattle on about, how many of our players have had it recently, bar, mgregor,

Sakalahas been one of our better perfomers you have a player that loves our club, tries hard

Sorry I’m not fooled by one ok performance.
I don’t see a good player for us in Matondo.
It’s fine having pace but got to know how to use it.
Once we get a striker and winger or wingers in the summer then I don’t believe Matondo or Sakala will be in the first 11, sub appearances at best.
