Every 'gers fan you talk to and every fan who posts in here like myself are very keen & excited about who is going to be the next rangers manager, ed, if it's ok I would like to ask on here to all who post in & of course yourself ed who there first, second & third choices would be for the next glasgow rangers manager, my top 3 in order of preference would be-1.Billy Davies, 2.Ian Cathro & 3.Derek McInnes, I'm looking forward to this healthy debate of opinions, cheers ed!

I really don't understand why there is so much hype about Billy Davies. He doesn't have a great record. He should not even be in the frame for this.

Ian Cathro has just signed a new deal with Valencia, so I don't think we have any chance of luring him either. He is assistant at a top team in La Liga, coming to a team with no infrastructure and playing in the second tier of Scottish football would be a massive step down.

I would love Derek Mcinness. He struggled with Bristol but has done some amazing things with the Scottish clubs he has managed. Failing this I think McCall would be the next best option. He always has the clubs best interest at heart. He realised he had taken Motherwell as far as he could and walked away to give them the best chance of progressing, he did the same thing at Bradford. Shows real character.

Another couple of names I think could do the job are Terry Butcher or Jim Jefferies. Not ideal but I wouldn't be unhappy with either.

I also think getting Magath in as head of Murray Park would be a great appointment.

Mcinnes. Cathro be happy with either

I certainly would rule out butcher and jeffrey, we should be aiming higher than them 2

1)Thomas Tuchel, 2)Eddie Howe, 3)Alex Mcleish any of these would do.

{Ed001's Note - would Eddie Howe have any interest? I very much doubt it.}

5.) 16 Feb 2015

Derek McInnes, Stuart McCall and just to be different, Nigel Clough. I really think McInnes would be the right guy though, as long as he was given time, ie more than 5 years.

1st Mcinness 2nd McLeish 3rd Mcall I would also like to see Ian Ferguson as part of the coaching team

I would love a Butcher and McCall partnership. Butcher got a bum deal at Hibs, what he did at Motherwell 2005 Scottish League Cup final, and then Inverness was astonishing 09/2010 season By the end of March, Butcher had guided his team from 16 points behind league leaders Dundee, to 4 points ahead and top of the Scottish First Division. As part of the push for promotion in 2009/10, ICT went on an unbeaten away run in the league that continued through the entire 2010 calendar year, culminating in a 1-1 draw against Hearts at Tynecastle on 18 December. In 2012/13 season Butcher received a Manager of a month award for a second time in November, he led Calley to a second place by Christmas. Butcher has put winning sides together on peanuts. Butchers is the man we need.

1st McInness - can spot a player and build a team.

2nd - McLeish - Built a decent team and style on a limited budget while downsizing was going on.

3rd - (dreaming) Michael Laudrup with Brian Laudrup as assistant.

9.) 16 Feb 2015
16 Feb 2015 16:35:28
I think Michael Laudrups contract is up at the end of the season. Brian might persuade him haha.

As far as long shots go, what do you guys think of Ole Gunner Solskjaer or Sami Hyppia? Both struggled in England but are young and hungry and actually use tactics. Which would make a nice change.

Would take Solksjaer in a heart beat, although his Cardiff time was rough his team did put together good passing football they just couldn't see out results or score enough goals. But what I liked most was he is gutsy he speaks his mind.

{Ed001's Note - I could introduce you to a lot of fans at Cardiff that would disagree about the words good and football being involved in any description of Ole's time there.....}

Yeh Strachan great manager. Just the fact he was also a great manger for Celtic also don't think it would go down well

20.) 17 Feb 2015
17 Feb 2015 00:19:12
I think McInnes is the favourite of the football people at the moment.
McCall is my standout as he has everything we need including freedom of contract as he's not at a club at the moment but what about Tugay? He's been there, done that and been Captain and assistant manager/coach in some big setups so why not give him a call?

21.) 17 Feb 2015
16 Feb 2015 22:23:26
Dunc, you say ian cathro has signed a new contract as assistant manager of valencia which is correct but what you obviously didn't say is that in cathro's contract it states that cathro can leave for nothing if an offer comes for him to be his own man ie.manager/head coach of a club in his own right, its a thank you from valencia & their manager who thinks the world of cathro, this is fact dunc so I really do think there would be a chance that cathro would relish the chance of rebuilding rangers as our new head coach and the challenge it would provide for him, cathro has always said he wants to be the no.1 at the right football club for him

JR

You seem to have more exclusives than the Sun! That said were this to be an actual fact it would be a good option as I hjave a feeling even with the King era starting at Ibrox on 5th March 2015 that McInnes might not want to leave what he has created at Aberdeen, were Milne to ensure him that money is there to match Celtic signings wise he will stay at Aberdeen I think. I would love him to stay.

The option of Cathro for me is a potential due to what he has achieved coaching wise and development of youth at Valencia. He has thtential to be a Mourinho. We may end up with one of the best young coaches in Europe.

Again I can't say if you are correct but if that is the case I think he will be in the top 5 people King will look at Ferguson I can imagine will know all about him.

Still McInnes first for me if we can get him

2. McCall

Hi JRT,

For me its a little more complicated.

If we get promoted:
1. Derek McInnes, 2. Stuart McCall 3. Ian Cathro

If we stay in division:
1. Ian Cathro, 2.Stuart McCall 3.Derek McInnes

I believe if we stay in this division Ian Cathro's eye for young talent would help us build a younger team to take up with us.

There is also the option Rangers are looking at a technical Manager and a coach.

If we got a foreign tech manager like Magath or Wotte then I'd like a Rangers man in beneath like McCall or McInnes

If the Tech manager was a Rangers man already like Butcher then I would go for Cathro.

good post bluegenius

i agree a different approach would be wise but the only thing I would say is continuity I think we will need a man in to build from scratch but to stay in charge and whilst cathro in lower league is as you point out advantageous I still think whomever they choose will be the man LONG TERM so they will disregard the league that we are in so likely mcinnes all the way for me then mccoll if mcinnes is not coming for whatever reason

cathro would not be bad either in my view

Not sure, even with new board and finance available, McInnes would take the job.
He's already said he's only just starting at Aberdeen and has 2 years to run on existing contract.
Aberdeen now debt free and looking to move to new stadium. Built a team that can challenge for trophies.
No reason to throw all that away other than loyalty to Rangers.
My guess is that he'll head for England when he calls it a day up north, assuming continued success, which I don't doubt.
Similarly, I don't think McLeish would move from Belgium.
To be honest, without new board and finance you can forget all of the above.

Notice my reply didn't get through ed am I not allowed a truthful say if it was just missed by mistake I said Rangers are having a laugh the state there in no one will touch you but mc kinnis will get the job eventually but the problems all need to be sorted first

{Ed039's Note - Didn't see a post)
