Held off sending this most of today. Given the news that Billy McNeil has dementia I hoped we would see some form of comment from the Club.
So he is a one-club Celtic man playing over 800 games, 9 in a row captain and leader of the Lisbon Lions.
Much as he is a Celtic institution, he epitomises the kind of leadership on and off the park we are sorely missing. Reading this mornings paper, his Wife shows the kind of dignity and strength that Rangers today misses.
Many of the recent Club Statements have been misguided and petty, not worthy of Rangers.
Traynor and the board needs to take a lead from Mrs McNeil and communicate openly and honestly.
Step 1 (and I am really disappointed this has not already happened) would be a Club statement recognising and sympathising with a old foe in time of struggle and offering support to his wife and family. Commmon decency and (missing) class.
Shout this down if you will.

Iain, I think you are being a bit harsh, it is extremely sad and our thoughts are with Billy as he fights this horrible disease, John Grieg came out today and spoke warmly about his pal as he fights his biggest battle.

It is Sunday and I, m sure the club will release a statement in the next couple of days.

No one will shout you down but just disagree at the speed you expect the club to release a statement.

The club is in a bit of turmoil at the moment and all efforts are focussed on finding a new manager.

Class has got nothing to do with it, has any other club released a statement.

2.) 26 Feb 2017 20:28:28
Why would rangers release a statement because mcneill has dementia i don't get it

3.) 26 Feb 2017 20:40:26
Ron 59 - fair point - hope you are right

4.) 26 Feb 2017 22:14:44
Fergie 81@ The fact you need it explained it to you. Should tell you everything.

5.) 26 Feb 2017 22:14:56
Fergie 81. It's called respect. Same as celtic done for Fernando and also donated 10.000 pound to his benefit match.

6.) 27 Feb 2017 02:25:40
When sandy jardine was diagnosed with terminal cancer how long did it take celtic to release a statement if they even released one. Get off your high horse iain. How do you know they havnt privately contacted billys family?

7.) 27 Feb 2017 12:24:33
I'm sure the PR team at Ibrox could pen a short statement in a matter of minutes saying that it is with the utmost regret that Rangers learned of Billy's illness and wishing the man and his family well.

Anyway Jim Traynor isn't part of the team helping to find a new manager/ DOF, is he?

I just received an e-Mail to buy new kit from rangersmegastore. com - this is SD not the club- this needs to be made clear.

Yeah same here. I don't agree with this kind of disguised email as it had me believing it had come from the club. Ashley get the hell out of my inbox. Your as welcome as a fart in a space suit.

I don't care what anyone says about Dave King. Everything he has done or is trying to do for our club and is not for his own self gain.
Ridding us of Mike Ashley and sports direct is his bone just now and he will succeed.
He had the vision and the insight to recruit The Magic hat in the first place and look how that's panned out.
So what if he's no splashin the cash on big names. I didn't know who Waghorn or Tav were before they arrived and how much were they?
In Warburton we trust but it's time Mr King got some love too no?

BBC at it again - 'Rangers fans angry after Siri says club is four years old'

Article suggesting that when you do a Siri voice search on iPhone, "When were Rangers formed? ", you get Dec 2012 not 1972.
I have tried it a number of ways, including directly to the search engine Siri uses and cannot get it to give this answer. I guess the clue is in the screen shot in the article that talks of Rangers International Football Club which was indeed formed in 2012.

Am I angry? Nope - Gers just signed 9th new player and 3 more extended. On Saturday I watch Nico pass better than I have seen in Scotland for many years and all is right. Not angry just a bit sad that this is the best we can expect from our state broadcaster.

No fan of the Record but interesting article showing that based on total of goals plus assists Tav is second only to Griffiths with 39. He's no top class defender but he scored or assisted in about 1 in 3 of goals in all games last year. Careful what you wish for.

fed up with people knocking him, certain posters looking for anything to knock the guy, whither it being not great defender or having the audacity to try and get a better deal on his new contract, bottom line he has done, and indeed much more, than he was brought for, and any one who disagrees with that statement is talking complete nonsense.

2.) 19 Jul 2016 19:29:01
Can't argue with they stats. I've said on here million times, I'd rather a roving FB contributing to attack than someone like Lustig any day. Bore you to death that would.
Would be interesting to see how many goals against he was directly at fault for, probably about 2 that I can think of.

I don't want to seem paranoid (too much of this in Scottish football) but the BBC really needs to be questioned about coverage of supposed Fulham interest in Mark Warburton.
BBC news today has a thin report headlined Warburton 'Committed' to Rangers - the use of quotation marks perhaps suggesting a part-true weasel statement.
Mark Warburton today said Rangers had not received an approach and he had not been offered improved terms and budget to stay.
News of the approach and the inducements to stay was broken 'Live' on yesterday evening's BBC Sportsound
Poor journalism or mischief making?

Mischief.

2.) 03 Dec 2015 15:00:04
Well said. He's made it as clear as he can that he has no interest in leaving and I believe his heart is set at Ibrox. That said, and I read today on the subject of incentive, I believe the board must step in now and up his salary package and do all they can to fend off interest from down south.

3.) 03 Dec 2015 15:14:58
It's a story folk are interested in I don't think they are doing anything wrong it's there job to report i don't think we need to worry mate!

4.) 03 Dec 2015 20:42:36
The bbc's journalists are biased beyond belief, surely the independence referendum proved how biased they are!

Ashley can't pull in the loan - it was negotiated in a previous administration to potentially gain control of trademarks and strengthen retail position - sure Ashley is a uber-wealthy, brutal businessman but if he held all the leverage would he (a) request Rangers shareholders to vote to repay the loan and (b) send undercover bailiffs to serve DK with breaking anti-gagging suit - NOPE this is not behavior of someone holding all the leverage - Board is right to delay share issue and fund short term via soft loans - all the current court cases need to run there course and then possibly a public offering - what will a public offering be anyway - it will be underwritten by T3B and DK - what's the difference.

RafBob - common sense as usual - the 'brothers' comment is an irrelevance - he is our Manager and demands our support - the board were under pressure - the solution would be to appoint a 'Rangers Man' but they need to appoint the right man - heard nonsense about not being able to afford McInnes with compo - if Pedros salary is even close this is more than enough to pay of the sheep and empty McInnes - I agree this is a risk appointment but the low risk options such as McInnes and Wright guarantee no more than years of 2nd place mediocrity

Don't get that Alex McLeish has the capability or record to be DOF. For a number of reasons, we cannot spend our way out of this - a DOF needs to sort and drive value from the academy, sensibly recruitment with a half an eye to sell on and at the same time equiping the team to compete as we grow by supporting a first team coach - DOF is way different to manager so (much as he delivered) why McLeish?

Gannet - aye - after this and your earlier comment on Barrie Mackay being rank rotten and the most overrated player you have ever seen you need your bed.

Fd is spot on even if the 'character test' phase was misplaced (fair play he said so) . This isn't about who was/ is the biggest ned. I am unmfortable with Barton's actions in the past but I can accept that the management team believe this is in the past and he can add real presence to the team - seems right so far but we will see.
For me Lafferty would not add to the team so not for me. If we get someone else in fine. If not give Dodoo a run. He made himself chances last night and kept coming back - first full game too.
