So Rangers and Celtic both interested in Ross Barkley after departing Chelsea. Oh and a host of English clubs - interesting.

The fact it would be a permanent deal now should see us out of the running.
If it was a loan with his club covering most of his salary then it might happen like Ramsey.
The fact he was on or around £200k a week at Chelsea would suggest he’s not likely going to drop to about £30k max.
I would much rather we went for Olaru.

having read what the ed has to say about barkley i don't think anone would want him, often wondered why he never quite reached his peak, obviously too much money went to his head, he isn't alone in that.

The same people not wanting Barkley said the same about Lawrence. Like it or not Barkley would absolutely improve our squad! He’s the 8 we so badly need. Technical and mobile.

The guy could be another Andy King. Just because he’s been in the EPL and won things doesn’t really matter. It’s what kind of player is he right now. If Chelsea are having to pay him off because no one else is willing to take a risk on him then that sends alarm bells ringing. This is a 28 year old former England international and his career has completely stalled. Who knows what type of player would be getting.

Lundstram wasn't wanted, Lawrence wasn't wanted, Colak wasn't wanted . list goes on. Granted the lad failed at Chelsea, but was superb at Everton. 200k a week is bound to affect many a young lad! If we could manage to negotiate a good deal, I'd definitely welcome him. Only 28, and is a big unit.

Wages might be more doable now that he is on a free, no transfer fee to be paid so that money can go to the player. Olaru or Evander would be a fee of £5 million or so to the clubs and wages to the player. Outlay to us could be similar although paid out monthly . Its how we afforded Lawrence and Lundstram. On his game I would take Barkley but there must be a reason why he hasn`t performed at Chelsea or Villa when he was loaned out.

Barkley is totally different from Lawrence. Lawrence is a young guy, Barkley isn't. Barkley looked the part as a youngster at Everton but he went off the rails after being on Loan at Sheffield and Leeds when he became a regular at Everton. He was more interested in nightlife and he wanted down to London for the bright lights. His attitude stinks and always has done,
In the Walter Smith days I suspect that we could have turned hims round but I'm not so sure now. He could end up being a total disruption.

If Celtic get him it’s actually bad for his he wouldn’t do very well in our league and scorer’s absolute belters of goals. We had people like Gaza’s and mcoist who loved a night out but if anyone else does it they are wasters etc he would be better than arfield or jack anyone saying different is kidden themselves on.

Best player in our league? You mean like joey Barton said he would be? Or Aaron ramsay would be? Or Roy Keane before them? Barkley had 2 good seasons as a kid and has hardly played a game since. His attitude stinks and he isn't committed which is why no one has took a puntvon hom before and Chelsea have had to free him he wouldn't even be in the top 10 best players in Scotland never mind the best.

Joey Barton wasn’t even bad for rangers only time he even looked bad was against a much stronger Celtic team. Ramsey was always terrible with injuries and Roy Keane was in his 30s.

I'm not sure I agree with the comparison between Lawrence and Barclay.
Lawrence was captain of his side, playing every week and adding value on the park.
Barclay is effectively being paid to leave his club as he's not wanted.
Personally I wouldn't like us to take the gamble on being the club that can help restart his career.
