As a follow up to the post i posted yesterday regarding our superb captain james tavernier i would like to gauge his standing amongst rangers right full backs of yesteryear Where do all my fellow bears see tav in their list of great rangers right full backs ie in comparison to the likes of sandy jardine,
gary stevens, alex clelland, alan hutton, steven whittaker etcin all aspects of full back ability .

SWSO it is difficult to judge Tavernier or any other player of a bygone day because the game was completely different. However, as a defender Bobby Shearer was probably better. Of the names you mention
IMO he is probably up there with Sandy Jardine.

There are some great names there coop but Tavernier's ability to score so many goals for a full back gives him the nod. He'd play for any EPL team in my opinion. He is also super-fit. What a player what a star.

A smidgen behind hardline and better than the others you mentioned. Did Clelland sneak in there by mistake? .

Sir Walter here’s my opinion, for what it’s worth. We got to the final without Morelos, we got to the final without Helander, we got to the final without Jack at times. We would not have gotten to the final without Tav!

Tav has been the best RB at the club in my supporting lifetime which started in 1984!
Which speaks volumes as that includes England International Gary Stevens.
He will be remembered for decades and only fully appreciated when he is gone!

I agree 100% bluegenius, I never got the privilege to see the great sandy Jardine, but in my time I have saw, stephens, wright, Cleland, porrini, ricksen god rest him, Ross, Hutton, whittaker, broadfoot and without a shadow of a doubt none of them come any were near tav, and of my honest opinion I would say he has been our best pound for pound signing in my time.

Gary Stevens played in 2 England World Cup squads that got to the 1/ 4 final and semi finals of the world cup and Tavernier hasn't even played a friendly for England. Gary Stevens is better than Tavernier and there's not even a comparison. It's not taking anything away from Tavernier but he's nowhere near as good as Gary Stevens.

I’m surprised coop because there’s a couple in there that Tav doesn’t even come close too, sandy obviously and Stevens played against the best players in the world regular, I also would have Hutton before him every time, but he has been brilliant, just not against the quality those guys played against, and they played a different role, all were brilliant defensive players who got forward with ease, don’t remember sandy missing many penalties, and Hutton was a machine too.
