Is he the best keeper we’ve had since the goalie?

That's a big Jersey to fill, but he's certainly on the right tracks.

No!

As much as I think Butland is a fantastic keeper, who we're lucky to have, both Klos and McGregor were better keepers.

That picture does nobody any favours!

Hard to say always thought goalie n shagger were close, butland close to shagger, prob goalie, shagger, butland. But aye great keeper well 3 great keepers.

He is just behind McGregor for me just now but that’s only been half a season he’s been here. At the end of this campaign I think this answer may well be different Stevie. He needs a League championship medal to jump above him ??.

6.) 04 Feb 2024

Woods was better than him also.

7.) 04 Feb 2024
04 Feb 2024 19:04:11
Andy Goram and Chris Woods both better keepers than greegs, klos and butland for me with goram the best ever gers goalie by a bit ?.

You`ve got to rate McGregor at his peak as above Butland up until now and Woods and Klos were fantastic goalies for us. How Butland will rate against these guys will depend on what he does and wins in his future career with us.

9.) 04 Feb 2024
04 Feb 2024 19:11:44
He’s looking like a top quality keeper for us but you can’t say he’s up there with past goalies after six months, Woods, Goram, Klos and MaGregor between them won many domestic honours including league titles through a period of time.

10.) 04 Feb 2024
04 Feb 2024 19:17:02
He’s doing brilliantly filling his own jersey, that’s all he needs to do.

Fr me Butland is a more complete goalkeeper than klos or McGregor

Of course both, and woods are greater rangers keepers.

Go ram was my hero growing up. Him and then albertz.

Butland for me looks a better keeper than klos and McGregor but he’ll have to put in 4/ 5 years to be considered a great.
In terms of ability, we couldn’t possibly expect a better goalkeeper at rangers or in Scotland.
Really top drawer keeper.

12.) 04 Feb 2024
04 Feb 2024 20:44:42
Definitely Butland has the potential to be in the same breath as people like greegs and klos but that’s in years to come when he’s got the stats and medals to go with the ability and a just don’t think anyone comes close to goram and never will he was phenomenal.

13.) 04 Feb 2024
04 Feb 2024 20:50:58
Agreed walter.

Hey lads what about those superstars Bonny Ginsburg,
Lionel Létizi,
And Steve Simonsen.

We have a great history of having great keepers but we've had our fair share useless dross as well.

mcgregor Was a matchwinner, a true hero and could always rely on him to dig you out a hole time and again. I loved him. He had weaknesses like coming for crosses and his kicking wasnt the best bur my god the saves he could make in big games. I've yet to find a weakness in Butland but its a good debate. Mcgregor for me.

Aye ready Bonnie Ginsberg was a back up goalie to Woods, don’t remember him playing much apart from being outstanding at Celtic park around 1990 to get us a point in a 0-0 draw, remind us of the games that he cost us games to class him as dross.

17.) 04 Feb 2024
04 Feb 2024 22:20:33
Even charbonnier was a top keeper. Stefan klos gorams greegs and butland all top class.

18.) 04 Feb 2024
04 Feb 2024 22:21:55
Goram out there on his own as the best ever with McGregor, Klos and Woods fighting it out for second spot but all class goalkeepers.

Like Bigdado, I don’t see a weakness in Butlands game so far. If he is still here in 5-6 years with at least 4 or 5 league titles, multiple cup winners medals and doing it day in day out then i can see him in that group and possibly battling for the top spot but a long way to go before then.

Keeper position has changed massively over the years! I love all the keepers mentioned above and hope JB stays with us long enough to be recognised amongst the greats! ?.

Thought somebody would mention the "Girvan Lighthouse" he used to put snow on the ball when he kicked it up the park.

It sure if my last post got through as phone cut off

Sir Walter when I first started getting into football it was my grandfather got me into a very big Blue nose until he passed at 94 years young
At the time it was Mccloy who was our keeper then a year later Chris woods became our keeper and woods is the one I remember most when I started getting into football and was and will be one of my favourite goalkeepers of all time for various reasons other than he was a class keeper
Andy and Alan are my next two Andy being a tremendous keeper but I always had a soft spot for Greegsy his overall approach to the game especially his first time around was brilliant doesn’t matter to me who was the better keeper out he two. It’s for me were absolutely brilliant in their own rights and made some of the biggest saves in some of the most important games in our recent historiy theirfore I couldn’t say which one was better or who I liked more both just brilliant
But woods is the Keeper who I will always remember when I realised Rangers would be my club for life ??.

Here’s hoping in two or three seasons time we are asking the same question but until then it’s still Gerry Neef, Peter Mcloy and Stewart Kennedy ?.

23.) 05 Feb 2024
04 Feb 2024 23:59:41
There’s only one Andy Goram.

Useless fun fact about one of our old keepers Nicky Walker. He married one of the girls that used to be on the cans of Tennants lager and he was minted as it's his family that own Walkers shortbread.

Since the Souness era rangers have been blessed to have had some of the best goalkeepers in the game, from Chris Woods and Graham Roberts ? to Lionel carboniferous and Stefano loss, followed by the Goalie god bless him to Greegsy and now butland we have also had some great back ups like Theo Snelders and that guy that was "finished" at 28 Antti Niemi. For me The goalie was the best 5 foot 10 shipped like a pig with the reflexes of a cat god rest him and may his memory live long in the rangers family.

Gorahm by a country mile, kloss, woods, greggsy all amazing keepers, butland nowhere near yet but he is a fab keeper n we lucky too have them.

Butland's been exceptional. Just enjoy him when he's here guys because he might not be here long.

Rangers have been fortunate to have some great goalkeepers over the years, and add Butland to the list.

Chris Woods was my idol growing up. What a keeper. Would love to have seen him back at rangers as a GK coach.
