Alan Mcgregor Vs John Mclaughlin.

Shagger last season was brilliant, yep he made 2 mistakes vs r. county and mwell, but in both off those games the defence was the real reason we dropped the points. Shagger was also a massive reason we reached a European final.

Mclaughlin - played domestic cup games and a few leauge games against park the bus teams never much to do other than old firms.

It's seems everyone on here has only one argument that they give for making him our No1 goalie, and it's he comes for crosses where shagger doesn't. Yesterday against an awful killie he did come for crosses and punched it straight down the middle to an opposition player in the danger area. He also played a pass out off the box into a dangerous area and nearly cost us again, he gives me the boak with the ball at his feet and also the same when he punches crosses to the edge of the box allowing opposition to have a good chance.

Shot stopping Mcgregor is better.
As a presence on the pitch and barking at the defence Mcgregor is better. Reliability on a big stage Mcgregor is better.

Mclaughlin will never be good enough to be Rangers No1. So if shagger is deemed as No2 this season then we desperately need a new No1 goalie. Which makes it strange as that would make shagger no3. I've watched Mclaughlin at hearts and always thought he was a decent good goalie but never thought he was any better than utds Benjamin seigrist who is currently the tims number 2, see what I'm saying no way is Mclaughlin any better than seigrirst, but Mcgregor is the best keeper in Scotland.

McGregor made a whole lot more than 2 mistakes.

And McLaughlin is comfortably better than Siegrest too, I reckon you’ve only seen him v Us as he usually had a wonder game v us but the amount of mistakes he made last season was unreal.

McGregor is better at shot stopping and that’s it mate.

Craig gordon right now is the best keeepr in Scotland also.

Pretty obvious that many people have made up their mind that McLaughlin is not good enough to be our number 1.

Why? Point to the errors he has made over the past year that justifies this doubt.

In the cup final last season he had full control of his box and we looked 100% comfortable

How many games did we lose when he was in goal?

McGregor may be the better shot-stopper but a modern keeper needs to be more than a 1 trick pony! On crosses he can be woeful. His distribution has always been a weak point. With the ball at his feet he looks less than happy.

To say that the defense was at fault for the Ross County and Motherwell games is pure fantasy - McGregor was 100% at fault for losing both games.

At least try to justify your opinions about JM instead of just writing him off.

Feels like Tav basing all over again and see who was proved right on that one.

DK, Normally I don't agree with your posts, mainly due to the fact that your having a pop at me. However I do agree with your views this time.

Irrelevant! Gio has apparently made him 1st keeper.

Bgate how do you know that? Surely if he was a better communicator/ organiser we wouldn’t have conceded so many goals from set pieces last season?

This season we're changing 3 out of our back 5 and so far this season we haven't been able to start our 'preferred' 5.

It's a big ask for McLaughlin to step up, and an even bigger ask to step up in these circumstances - but he's shown over the years that he's more than capable.

For me the issue we have is long term - if it's not going to be McCrorie, then we need to invest now.

Bgate has it spot on for me ?As far as i'm concerned greegs is a better keeper than mclaughlin and hand on heart i don't think mclaughlin is a rangers no.1 goalkeeper ?Our defenders i'd bet my life on it have a helluva lot more faith with greegs behind them as opposed to mclaughlin! Greegs is better than mclaughlin at the majority of skills a goalkeeper has to possess ?.

A team like the famous should have a top keeper. Should have the best in Scotland at the least. Could have got Gordon for buttons. McLaughlin is a decent keeper but we need better. McGregor needed to be replaced and continue as no2. McCrorie. seems he isn't going to be a gets no1 ever so. move on son and play. We need a top class keeper. a new Goram.

You are also forgetting the error against Hearts last season from McGregor.
McGregor WAS a wonderful servant but last season proved his time is up.
Legend status is hard to attain but another season like last would blot his legacy.
Not just in the errors but he continually gave the ball away in his distribution and was glued to his line all too often.
McLaughlin for me deserves his opportunity.
If he doesn’t impress Gio then I would assume another will be bought.

DK what nonsense that is saying complete fantasy that our defence were not at fault for the goal in Dingwall and at ibrox vs well. You have a short memory so you do. We gave away a horrendous corner in Dingwall as the defence were fanning about with the ball and got dispossessed 5 yards outside our box could of been kamara. Should have Humped it upto there corner and kept it there we take 3pts. Motherwell was Lundstram playing a howler to the well player failing to wipe the winger out allowing him to charge down the wing put a free cross in then goldson just let it glide passed him to be tapped in. You might say shagger should of came for that, but the cross would never of happened had Lundstram fouled him or goldson took charge. Like a previously said Mclaughlin only plays park the bus teams or the tims in the cup, your whole judgement comes from 2 games vs the tims cause he punched a few crosses, I'd he punched that cross yesterday to one of the people front line he would of been picking it out off the net. He's been stinking so far this season. His fault we lost in Belgium. Shagger would of saved the 1st goal and most likely the pen as he saved a few of them last season in Europe eh. and you were delighted.

Coops you can’t bet your life on that because you don’t know unless you have spoken to the defenders.

Hearts, Motherwell, Ross County, Hibs, Celtic.
That’s off the top of my head.

Also made 3 v Red Star in the one game but thankfully VAR came to our rescue.

20.) 07 Aug 2022

DK, I don't believe that you can use that as an argument; how many games has he played! Why, if he is so good did he not replace McGregor given the goals that he lost. McLaughlin was brought in as a backup for McGregor, if he was truly ambitious then he would have moved on just as Fotheringham did when he knew that he wouldn't be our Number one keeper.
I don't believe that he is in the top three keepers in Scotland at the moment, Craig Gordon, Joe Hart, (sadly), and maybe even David Marshall are ahead of him for me, and there might be others.
Rangers should always have a top quality keeper as we had with McGregor and many more before him; it is a concern for me that right now we are the weakest that we have been in the goalkeeping department.

Can’t we just back the man, instead of trying to shoot him down at every chance .

22.) 07 Aug 2022

What's really the point. We won yesterday, conceded no goals and the keeper played well so why are we debating it?

23.) 07 Aug 2022
07 Aug 2022 17:47:08
Greeg's is clearly at the end of his career and had few howlers last season, BUT BUT, I can remember him saving us from a doing, more than when he cost us!
Can anyone remember JMcL having the same effect?

24.) 07 Aug 2022
07 Aug 2022 18:03:49
Arfield, your memory is different to mine ? ~ our GK was 100% to blame for losing against RC and Mwell. ?

How do you know AM would have saved the first goal and possibly the penalty? Dreamer! ?‍♂️

Berkshire, don’t tell me what I can use as an argument when you have nothing to back up yours. ?

Still no-one has anything worthwhile other than hot air to support why they are right and Gio is won’t about our GK. ??

???????.

DK you appear to be on the defensive here, and even though you are having a pop at anyone with a different opinion to yours by demanding they back up their claims, you yourself have not responded to my question on whether you are insinuating that the 2nd greatest goalkeeper in our history is a "1 trick pony"?! Well? ?? The mere fact you have used that term in the same sentence to try, but fail, to back up your flimsy argument, just proves to me that you know nothing. Not so much a "1 trick pony", more of you making yourself look like an ass coming away with garbage like that! ??.

Interesting comment Down Tube?

I have already made my point if you care to read ~ AM has been a great servant but age has caught up with him. If I’m allowed an opinion, JM is better at crosses, with the ball at his feet and with his distribution . Again, IMO the ONLY area that AM is better at is shot stopping.

AGAIN, if you care to read my posts, I believe that AM is required to make more saves because he does not control his area by taking crosses.

As far as being an ass, the fact that you have resorted to name calling means that you have already lost the argument (with me and Gio BTW)

You’re welcome.
