For John specifically and anyone interested, I had a long chat with Alastair Johnston again today as I did 18 months ago. He's a good guy and a proper fan, albeit with a few quid more and a better seat than me. He's very candid and says he believes the leadership we have off the pitch is going to bring success.

Also spoke with FT, he's in for future and going nowhere. Also a great guy and one who will work every day to get us to where we all want to be.

I feel a lot better after today than o did at the end of last season where I feared the worst. It's lightened my bad mood from Thursday and yesterday.

10 Aug 2026 12:21:15
Ibrox, I am being an idiot who is FT?

10 Aug 2026 12:26:33
Fraser Thornton. Executive Director and former Interim Chair. An exceptional guy and a proper supporter too.

10 Aug 2026 12:28:51
Fraser T.

10 Aug 2026 12:29:18
Fraser Thornton, I suspect Storm.

10 Aug 2026 12:42:52
Thanks, guys. I don't even know what day it is. πŸ˜‚

10 Aug 2026 12:51:27
Hopefully they have plans to sort the recruitment out then, Ibrox, I'm glad you're positive, bud, but until we see it on the pitch, they are just words which we have heard many times over.

10 Aug 2026 13:05:10
It's Thursday, Storm, we go again 2nite. πŸ˜‚

10 Aug 2026 13:07:27
Couldn't work out who FT was either!. πŸ€ͺ

10 Aug 2026 13:00:51
Storm thought it was full time. 🀭

10 Aug 2026 13:54:07
Thanks for message, Ibrox. I had a good chat with Gillespie, he is a very good appointment.

Cheers re info on FT positive news.

10 Aug 2026 14:53:55
Laudrup, I read it 1st of all as TF and am going, when did Tyson Fury start supporting Rangers? 🫣. Love nightshift.

G4 does that mean we could be raging again come 10pm? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

We really need a win on Thursday.

10 Aug 2026 15:44:59
Fury after the game .you bunch of big dossers πŸ˜‚πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ

10 Aug 2026 16:28:34
I think we'll win on Thursday, mate, but it could be a long night.

10 Aug 2026 16:51:34
Thank you, Ibrox, that was very uplifting after yesterday's result. This Thursday would be an ideal time to turn the corner.

10 Aug 2026 19:41:28
Alistair Johnstone backs the current owners, shocker.

10 Aug 2026 10:37:49
What have we learned from the first few games of this season:

GK:
Guy is new, but is he an upgrade on Butland? - Jury is out.

RB:
Never thought all would be an actual downgrade on Tav (even his performances last couple of seasons).
Sterling can't play 2 games a week.
McCronie - who sanctioned this?

CB:
Fernandez - total scare, lazy, no vision
Godfrey - another injury prone gamble.
Young SA needs time.

LB:
Rommens - not great, but just about gets pass marks, but no challengers.

MF:
Raskin is probably one of our better players, but not creative, will excel in type of role supporting better players in a better team.
Devlin gives his all but not the answer.
Young Serb lad looks like he will come good.
Aasgaard has the game but disappears too often.
As for the rest, all much the same and not the answer.

Wingers:
Japanese lad looks like he may have something.
Curtis is a squad player/impact sub at best at the moment needs time.
Gassama flatters to deceive.

Attack:
Chermiti has his moments, but will never be a prolific goal scorer.
Shankland - if he gets some service will score goals.
Others should never have been signed.

McInnes has made some strange choices so far, but we can't keep changing managers.

Recruitment has to be looked at, if budget is max Β£3-5 million tops per player, there has to be better options out there. We keep hearing not Rangers class, but at present what exactly is that?

Agree4 Disagree0

10 Aug 2026 11:49:21
Definitely need quality rb, Fernandez is a bomb scare, need a number 10.

10 Aug 2026 12:05:33
Fernandez, no vision? Wouldn't be surprised if he was up there for chances created yesterday. Can understand the criticism of his defending, but no vision? I don't think that's true.

10 Aug 2026 12:10:39
Can't argue with much of that, Jasp, all pretty much spot on.

10 Aug 2026 12:15:05
How can teams like Motherwell and Hearts get in players on cheap, and they hit the ground running or at least waling?

Our team is full of jobbers on big wages and we look like a Sunday league team with no heart, no imagination or creativity to score goals or even how to attack.

Yokota looks the only real positive and takes his man on.

Everything else is one pass forward, two passes back.

10 Aug 2026 12:22:49
Pretty much agree with everything you say, Jasp. The only thing I will say is it can only get better surely as we are beer rock bottom.

10 Aug 2026 12:23:29
Ally, because they have a manager that sets them up properly, but you get all the excuses it's different at Rangers etc.

10 Aug 2026 12:51:09
A bit harsh on Raskin, set up Curtis' first chance with a great ball in Poland, and yesterday had 3 attempts at goal, 2 of which he created from himself. It's not his main role in the team, but he offers more going forward than all the other midfielders.

10 Aug 2026 12:54:50
I agree, Jasp, there are value players out there for the value you're talking about, so much of it is down to the recruitment and scouting. Look across the city for examples: Nygren Β£1.7 million, Khun bought for Β£2.2 million, sold for Β£10million, Maeda paid Β£1.6 million, sold for Β£10.9 million, it's all down to quality of the scouting network and the ability of the Recruitment Team.

We don't seem to have that personnel. I believe we made a mistake letting Nils Koppen go.

10 Aug 2026 13:46:05
Yokota is going to be a really good signing, Jasp, imo. πŸ€” I really like the look of our new Japanese winger and is going to get bums off seats the way he plays, and will absolutely be a fan's favourite, I feel. πŸ‘ πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

10 Aug 2026 14:02:27
Raskin can be creative, but he needs to play in a settled team in a settled midfield.

Fernandez should be nowhere near our starting 11.

10 Aug 2026 14:08:43
Don't know about his vision, in the first half yesterday Yokota had acres of space, but for some reason he kept turning and going back down the left side.

10 Aug 2026 14:29:18
He's our left sided centre back, he's not going to ping diagonal balls all day. If he did, people would be moaning at him also, because they wouldn't all land.

10 Aug 2026 15:24:24
Tav Amoruso, done exactly that.

10 Aug 2026 11:12:31
Like everyone here, this is no doubt the darkest time to be a Rangers supporter and not easy at all. I've been a season ticket holder with my mother since 2012 and went through the whole journey, and stuck with the club thick and thin and thinking the Europa league final win would mark that we are truely back.

But unfortunately since 2022 it's just been a steady decline and we have all suffered, manager after manager injuries after injuries, feels like living in a real life Groundhog Day!

This is how sad it is, if we win I hardly get excited but if we lose or draw it's starting to feel like that's the norm which is absolutely not right, sure the odd bad result here and there but not thinking that every week. I'm desperate to enjoy going to the games again with my mum and everyone around me in the stadium but it's very hard, and no doubt for everyone here right now.

Thankfully I've Paris coming up on the 19th with my partner and I'm going to propose to her, and this will no doubt be the greatest day of life so far. Positive times are ahead and let's do the things that keep us happy and hope for a brighter future

Agree7 Disagree0

10 Aug 2026 11:41:44
You'll be hugely disappointed if she knocks you back, mate! Maybe that's the new norm.

10 Aug 2026 11:53:34
Enjoy Paris and hopefully she says yes. πŸ‘πŸ»

10 Aug 2026 12:00:18
Hahaha, hopefully she doesn't, Baxterboy. 🀞🏻

Cheers, JkingGERS80, I hope she does, mate.

10 Aug 2026 12:25:35
Do it in Blackpool next to the tower, mate, save you a few bob. πŸ˜ƒ Best of luck. πŸ‘

10 Aug 2026 12:27:39
Good luck, Boydy, and hopefully she says yes, but I'm sure she will. πŸ‘Œ

10 Aug 2026 12:53:13
Boydy, just hope your partner doesn't read the Rangers Rumours/Banter pages or you've just blown your surprise, mate.

10 Aug 2026 12:54:41
Hopefully she doesn't turn round and say she's a secret Tim and reject you.

All jokes aside, I hope she says yes pal and you have a great time away.

10 Aug 2026 13:10:34
All the best, Boydy! You got this!

10 Aug 2026 13:59:55
Boydy, the present time is not close to our darkest time, try liquidation or The Ibrox Disaster when 66 never returned home.

10 Aug 2026 14:11:23
Boydy, here's hoping she says yes. All the best.

10 Aug 2026 14:25:03
Cheers all! I'm very sure she'll say yes, and she's also hinted at me about it for a good while. 🀣 Her dad is a Tim, but he's a lovely guy and gave me his blessing.

John, I include liquidation along with our present situation because we have only won one title, one Scottish Cup and one League Cup.

Along with the fact how long it's lasted for (14yrs, which is long). Of course the 66 that died in 71 is tragic and will never be forgotten. I'm only 33 and have very limited successful Rangers teams to be nostalgic about. Nothing against you, mate, at all, just basing it off my experience so far. WATP. πŸ”΄βšͺοΈπŸ”΅

10 Aug 2026 15:25:06
Yeah, well said, John.

People going way way way too far with all this, man.

10 Aug 2026 16:57:12
Cheers, Boydy.

10 Aug 2026 10:41:38
Time.
An excuse or justifiable reason?
Most wanted a Rangers minded, SPFL experienced manager who knew the club and league. Now he apparently needs time.
Most wanted Rangers men within the playing squad, who would get it and be firing on all cylinders from the start. Now they need time.
Most wanted SPFL experienced players who knew the league. Now they need time.
How come other clubs, managers and players don't require that same time?
Most wanted Shankland as the man to fire us to the title. Instead, he looks as if he is towing a caravan, across a muddy field, covered in treacle.

Most thought Devlin was a wonderful signing, due to his stats last season, as that midfield dynamo who would snap into challenges etc. Instead, he looks like a Poundland version of Barron.
Loads thought Dan Neil would be another Championship level player who would take the SPFL by storm. And yet our vice-captain can't even get a starting slot.
Godfrey another who would be a rock if he could stay fit and was promptly out for a month after the first competitive game.
McInnes and these players need to get the finger out and give us something to cheer, build on.
Starting on Thursday.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Aug 2026 11:37:23
Mrpotato, fair comment, mate, but I need a lie down now even if I get sacked. Yes, Shankland and Devlin look like a nightmare, captain? Just naw, that's mental and very worrying, but we don't have anyone else I can think of at the moment. Hope Drago develops well, needs time.

10 Aug 2026 12:07:55
Mph, any manager needs time, and for writing a player off after 90 minutes is a major problem Rangers have with so called supporters.

10 Aug 2026 12:25:36
Pretty much a good summary, Mph, we are a fecking mess. It's funny as all we hear every time is that we need time to bed in players etc, when no other club does.

10 Aug 2026 12:46:10
Great summary of three competitive games. Some of the players have only played in one of them. Let's judge that after 15 games and see if players improve.

I agree, some of the players haven't hit the ground running, but with 13 or so leaving and 8 joining (more to come) did we honestly expect to come out the traps with every player hitting 9 out of 10 each game?

10 Aug 2026 12:57:52
Yes, but it's only at Rangers where players need a season to adapt to playing for our club, Storm, as apparently nowhere else they need it.

McInnes must feel some way about Neil too, Star, as why isn't he selecting him and allowing him time to play? Instead, he has hooked him at 45 mins, he is vice captain and should be starting every game he is fit for.

10 Aug 2026 12:58:18
I don't rate Devlin and still say we should never have signed him, not based on one game, and to be fair to him he has made some great tackles and got us out of trouble. My issue though is that he can't do anything with it when he wins it, 10 yard passes are about his limit.

People criticised Barron and maybe he isn't as physical as Devlin, but his range of passing, long and short, is miles better. He also has decent set piece delivery, which we are screaming out for. Don't understand why we are freezing him out of the squad.

10 Aug 2026 14:38:05
Bigbluejim, difference with not selecting him and writing him off, percent example of some Rangers fans after 90 minutes, that only helps players failing, clearly too blind for some.

10 Aug 2026 14:42:24
But it won't make Dan Neil fail, but has happened the last few seasons with players not mentally strong enough.

10 Aug 2026 14:57:58
Wsl, it's not his job to do much with it. That's why he needs the players roundabout him to do what you are expecting. If he was the all round complete midfielder he probably wouldn't be playing in Scotland at his age.

10 Aug 2026 15:47:21
Yes, Storm, a lot of us do state that time is needed to bed in players at Rangers, and it's fairly obvious why, mate. πŸ€” It's one thing a player being signed and playing with a provincial club, with low expectations, or way much lower than Rangers anyway, as opposed to a player signing for Rangers, with the expectations and the pressure here, and especially so as we've been winning trophies for 14 years now, mate.

πŸ€” Fairly obvious, I would have thought, as many a player we thought would be a very good signing at Rangers has failed because they couldn't handle the full package of playing for Glasgow Rangers. πŸ€”

10 Aug 2026 15:50:53
Cammy Devlin does the midfield job I'd expect him to do wsl, and does that job well and moves it on to our more technical, more attacking midfielders, mate, that's his job, he supplies the platform for these other midfielders I mentioned to perform. πŸ€”

10 Aug 2026 10:34:27
Not making excuses but with our constant annual rebuilds how can we ever hit the ground running? McInnes comes in half way through a summer, after a World Cup when some players haven't even returned to training yet.

No momentum whatsoever. Celtic start their game yesterday with 2 players that weren't with them last year, we started with 7 players that weren't with us last year. We need to break the cycle.

Agree4 Disagree0

10 Aug 2026 11:52:16
But yet, all our players apparently need time and 2 of their new signings done the business?

10 Aug 2026 12:24:00
MPH, the key point being 2 signings. We've got 9! It's going to take time.

10 Aug 2026 12:26:25
Recruiting is a major problem. Alloa have the wrong manager also.

10 Aug 2026 13:01:15
The problem is that too many of the 9 signings don't look good enough. All we have done is replace the loanees with squad fillers and we haven't addressed the lack of quality at the back and on the wings. Not being more ready than this for the start of the season is criminal.

10 Aug 2026 14:37:33
6 of the 9 started, Blue89.
2 of those have SPFL experience - Shankland & Devlin.
1 of them is Rangers minded / staunch - Shankland.
2 were praised for having decent games - Makhanya & Yokohama.

One was hung out to dry by the manager by being played out of position - Dragojevic.
The other was the goalie - Pandur.
So not sure what point you are trying to make?

Love the info.
Out of interest, has anyone seen any of our loan players in action?

10 Aug 2026 14:02:21
Cheers AK7.

10 Aug 2026 09:46:45
EHL/John β€” and anyone else who might have good links into the club β€” what's your take on the recruitment situation?

Do you think the recruitment department are properly aligned with Derek McInnes? For example, is Derek saying no to some of their targets, or is the issue more that the recruitment team simply aren't identifying players good enough?

Are we being too impatient given there's still plenty of time left in the window?

Or were we always going to have to start the season with weaknesses in key areas while the squad was being rebuilt?

Could it be that the club already have their main targets lined up, but are waiting for certain players to move on before bringing them in?

Just keen to hear people's take on it, as the pressure is increasing big time because the lack of quality in some key areas is becoming increasingly obvious.

Agree2 Disagree0

10 Aug 2026 11:55:48
Coop, see my very long post which will be on one of the pages imminently. DM very much central to recruitment, but CEO, Chair, Recruitment Team, physios and medical staff also part of decision making.

10 Aug 2026 12:05:56
Thought Ehl said there was at least 3 of our first targets we didn't achieve, and that was before Dahl. So, if we then say that these were replaced with next best, then surely we are down already. Not saying they can't come good, but if they weren't first choice.

Now, yesterday we started with 7 new players. So, if 3 of those weren't first choice, then that's nearly 50% of the new starters who weren't first choice.

10 Aug 2026 15:18:12
Thanks Ibrox4me

I'm just keen to hear from people with links to see if there is an obvious reason we are so far behind in quality.

Let's hope we manage to get real quality in the door soon or this will be a grim season.
