I thought Djiga and Fernandez were excellent at times, again, last night - would also add Nsiala to that for his little cameo.

Biggest issue again was lack of leadership on the pitch, as in the first half Hibs worked us out and we couldn't adapt until Rohl sorted it at half time.

Final point, despite a lack of quality at times, thought the players all fought hard each other.

think Fernandez has got plenty of good qualities, made a few slack passes last night but also some good passes going forward. If Danny Rohl can get him playing at his best level consistently he could be a very good centre half. Fear for him for when one of these cruyff turns on the edge of the box doesn't work and we concede a goal 😅

I thought Sterling was really good, glad he's back and getting some minutes under his belt, a very calm and relaxed player.

Hibs pressed well in first half n hour and extra man in midfield worked well for them, Bowie a handful up top and leads line well and if they had a bit more talent we would of been trouble, thought we adjusted well and worked our way into game, maybe not bums off seat football but 3 points and a clean sheet is a great start to festive period.

What is encouraging is that when not playing well, raft of changes (many inexperienced), we won't and kept it clean at other end. Considering most agree that our squad is less than stellar this for me is a real highlight. And the fact DR is now 8 unbeaten in league shows he has an ability to adapt and is clearly squeezing all from this side.


On the 'give him more games' side, clear to see the hype around Moore is becoming more justified. Thought his all around contribution was excellent and haloed drive the side on.

I think Fernandes and Nsiala would be fine with 2 seasoned well experienced Centre Backs to bring them on and play alongside them. I don't think either improve greatly playing alongside Souttar. I'd be happy with those 2 if we brought another 2 in. I think Souttar will have a few offers and probably leave.

Our oldest outfield player last night was 26 years old in Sterling.

Our front 3 were 58 years combined (Chermiti 21, Curtis 19 and Moore 18). 19 year old at left wingback, 23 and 24 CB, 25 RWB. Centre mids 23 and 24.

Taking that in account that just shows the lack of leadership in terms of maturity and experience but the effort on show was exactly what we want to see.

Liked Rohl's comment we don't win with tiki taka we win with effort effort effort.

EHL - biggest issue for me is our use of the ball. When we went 1-0 up we were unable to keep hold of it for any length of time. Constantly turning over possession.

And also unable to deal with a team that presses us. Seen it against Ferencvaros midweek and again last night.

When a player receives the ball, with their back to goal and a man on their back they need to pop it off with runners going into the space created by the pressing player.

We seem to try and control the ball, take too many touches and get the ball taken off us. Hence how it ended up a scrappy game.

Still think Rohl has been a great appointment and looking forward to January, although would feel better with a head of recruitment in there.

Macnaughten and Moore got 20 games in a Tottenham side last season and has still taken this long to get up to speed, and still has more. this is why we do have to be patient to let them reach their best. the right coach helps as well.

I know he is still a bit raw and his a few things he needs to iron out in his game but we shouldn't under play the part Fernandez is playing in the air at both ends of the pitch. This is giving us something we haven't had for years.

Angus, agreed. Think we need 'senior players' who play and offer real value.
As for Moore, he seems so much more effective when allowed to roam more freely up front. And clearly more to come, but he is showing up very much I think is down to DR giving more room for freedom and expression. If a few more of our younger players can continue to grow this season hopefully it means the likes of January window can then be used to get that more experienced backbone we require to push on.

have to say style is one thing but DR has us winning and that is a real boon with this squad
Then we'll see what summer brings.

agree Mcanaughten easy to see the EPL player with the confidence to try things and hold on to the ball. hopefully his example will help our younger lads and they do blossom.
think when Aasgaard came on Kevin Thomson said he wanted him to play with the same freedom to roam and find space.

I think the experience will be in CB and CDM hopefully and give that spine.

Yes in hindsight they should have passed but I would expect the two players who were alongside to be screaming for the ball and I didn't really see that happening. at least then it limits the amount of time they spend looking for the pass with 3 Hibs players close.

as the played the replays to those chances I was watching to see what the support platers were doing and they didn't seem to be screaming but you are right I couldn't tell 100% but body language didn't show that happening.


I suspect this is one of the forward decisions he will be working to develop with the young players so they make the correct choices in future.

Star what has been positive about Gassama since the first few weeks of the season? He has done literally nothing, is very lazy when tracking back, dives nearly any chance he gets, has created no chances for anybody and then to top it off he throws the toys out the pram when getting subbed.

When he does something positive I will praise him but he needs to do it first, I'm not giving a player a pass because of previous form. They need to carry it forward and produce regularly. Like you say maybe it's something he can be coached on but I just see it happening with him.

would have taken that score before the game as the 3 points are what matters. clean sheet as well. there are many negatives but the incoming window will change our mindset. the table looks so much better 9 off the jams and 3 off the jungles. can't see us getting 3 points on sunday but you never know. if we do get a win we are 6 behind the top. can't see them winning at tannadice. a draw would be lovely and leave us 4 back from them.

Tynecastle is a defining game. every player has to be on their game. excellent move taking Moore off as he is without our best player at this time. he will relish tynecastle. hope the rest of them do as well. on a footnote. Tavs time seems to be basically over except for cameo's. but we may need his experience on sunday as Aarons is not cutting it for me. but at least he tries and isn't lazy. ball watcjing was a problem tonight. fix that Danny.

Knowing the situation, I will say again that I think Rohl, and Rangers, are doing right by the player.

Having him involved with the first team and on the bench is important - even if he isn't ready to get minutes in all circumstances.

SWS possibly not the most eye catching or entertaining but we got the goal played okay for rest of 1st half I thought. In second half we defended really well as a team and Hibs didn't really create anything to trouble Butland.

that was with Hibs 6 wingers and forwards on the pitch.
but for a couple of offsides and poor choices we could have been out of sight as well I think (Gassama offside, Dio should have gone past keeper on outside etc)
1-0 though and on we go.

Try to watch what he does well rather than just shouting about the odd bad things. he put in a load of effort, laid the ball off well and had some good touches. what about the chest control just at the end when he brings it down on tight and holds onto it until the ref blows.

His positional sense is very poor in the 6 yard box. doesn't know how to read where the ball will land. but a decent enough shift as we are struggling up there. he neeeds a goal or 2 like Miovski got and quickly became a hero.

At the end of the day we won. 3pt off Celtic and were able to rotate, still get a clean sheet and win for 3rd time against Hibs…
Was everyone great, NO, but overall all out in a shift and again… we won.

I thought he had a better game last night although he didn't score. he does need to have some chances created for him to do that though.
He was unproven and we need to remember this is the first team he has been the starting number 9 for.

he needs to grow into that, get developed by the coaching team and he will continue to get better. it will take time but what we need to do or just write the whole £8M off.
just think he needs support atm rather than being judged for a fee which isn't his fault.

how about we give him a chance to develop with that support and see where he goes. I don't think he will ever be a 25 goals a season striker but we had one of those and chased him off. he might be that focal point though who the attack pivots around with his developing hold up play.

they had around 6 wingers and CF on at the end. Including several players who fans on here think we should sign, Mulligan and Bowie being two, Boyle?. so we didn't concede therefore we defended well against everything that was thrown at us. I don't see how anyone can argue against a fact like that.
anyway as a fan I like to look on the positives, 3 points closer to the top and a game in hand.

Angus your right in that Chermiti gets a bit too much unwarranted stick. But unfortunately for him that's because at Rangers when you sign an £8M player they should be as close to the finished article as possible.

This lad has talent, for me he lacks any heart or desire and is quite willing to let games go by. But that can't be the situation when you invest £8M on a player. He needs to understand this?

Blue north, it was the game I was looking for. Good in patches, a 1-0 win and away hame. We all knew that December would be a grind and the manager has done so well with this group of players.

Remember there are also 7 or 8 out injured which makes Danny's good run all the more remarkable.
Some day I'm going to come on here and read some praise for us from the doom merchant loyal.

zikos I saw a player tonight who improved. he was in a spat with McGrath at halfway line after a late tackle. that shows the heart and desire you want. I think he needs to be played into the game more. Like Dessers he is being isolated mostly, long balls played to him. difference is that Dessers was 29 confident and experienced.

this lad is 22 at his first start for a big club.
he needs mostly support and to be developed. there has been improvement and he has a long way to go but if he makes it we could have the decent player who football pros think is in there. if not we just write off £8M. so let's try to help him is all I am saying.
