Instead of having digs at Wilson and Rangers for this one have a look at who’s in charge of Standards transfers.

It would be madness for the club to be paying £2m for a player who is coming 6 months later for free. Standard need the money, it will happen but may need to be the final days of the window.

I despair. See a few people are sharpening the knives for Wilson already based on something they've read in the press. Wilson can't win can he. He gets a fantastic player in for free and he's criticised for not getting him in sooner. He signs the guy and people will say we spent too much. If he gets injured ever, Wilson will get the blame. Players are only worth what clubs are willing to pay for them. If we have a pre contract in place he’s only worth what we are willing to pay not what SL say. They want money now so I’m sure something will get sorted but maybe late on in the window.

Raskin plays at the U21 Euros for Belgium in the summer. He doesn’t want to be sidelined until then. If someone bids, and offers him a move now, we may still miss out on him. Given how highly rated he is that would be a disaster.

A lack of investment in the midfield off the pitch his resulted in a lack of success on the pitch ever since we won the title a few years ago. We should have the money to get this over the line and make sure we secure a player asset of this quality. If we do miss out it’s nothing but an embarrassment, incompetence, and I would expect Ross Wilson to walk.

Verdant I don't have definitive evidence but we also don't have definitive evidence any of this is true.
However if we are assuming this IS true. Then it would become evident that a contract is signed. Why?
Well in order for us to agree a move in January we would (most likely) make sure the pre-contract is signed to ensure there is a point in having this discussion and giving us the best position to bargain from.
Of course the whole thing could be dogcrap.
Whether we are penny pinching or not? Consider the facts that this player has been sent to reserves or train on his own (or whatever) he is not in first team plans so, for Liege, he has zero value and is taking a wage. As such, IMO, they are chancing their arm asking for more money.
That's my thoughts for what they are worth.

The fact that Wilson and Beale have convinced this lad to sign at least a pre contract shows both are very good at their jobs. I know that this lad had at least 6 offers made to his agent some from clubs in better leagues. We have had a masterclass in how to sell our club. Liege are making silly demands like 20% sell on with 6 months left and one of their top players training with kids. I think Wilson is still showing how good he is by our club refusing to pay millions for a few months. We wait till July and bring him for free if we can't get a deal that suits Rangers. Why make a deal that doesn't suit us just so the player comes in now.

If Raskin has signed a Pre contract then we are the guys holding all the aces in negotiations.
If we can’t agree fee just now then we get him for Free in summer or for a development fee which will be less than £1m.
We have Davis, Jack and Arfield out of contract in summer so he might be replacing 1 of them.
I would like him in this window but if club are asking for upwards of £1m and are currently freezing him out of their squad then come deadline day I’d be very surprised if we don’t get him for £500k max.
Negotiations take time but as long as he has signed a pre contract I will relax whatever way this pans out.

I'm usually not a fan of way we do things but in this case we are tiptoeing around this deal and rightly so liege have already shown the way they handle stuff in a petty manner dropping boy to reserves only proves this and if the boy doesn't want to wait a few months then he was just someone looking at highest bidder and doesn't really want to play for us.


Beale 65 that is not the way this deal will work he is a bosman yes but he is under 23 so a compensation package has to be agreed with his club otherwise we go to a tribunal which we don't want happening as games he plays could further increase his value.

As far as I'm aware from the media outlets Raskin has only Agreed Personal Terms that doesn't mean he's signed a Pre contract with us.

But it's not anything to panic like other have said Liege playing hard ball it is what it is and people seem confident he will be our player in the end.
