Good to see Finn Curtis in Scotland squad. Must have impressed Steve Clarke at the weekend

Why did it take a new contract and a payrise to finally notice that Souttar is an absolute issue in our defence?

Agree4 Disagree0

16 Mar 2026 13:02:12
He should never have received an extension. Big mistake in my opinion.

16 Mar 2026 13:18:51
Same. I think we can do better.

16 Mar 2026 13:43:29
Should have let him go on a free.

16 Mar 2026 14:08:04
He's been kept to help fill the Scottish trained quotas for Europe as a backup defender. Chances are he'll be 4th choice anyway, and in that position on the squad, I think he's good enough.

16 Mar 2026 14:14:12
17k a week for four choice, farce over 800k a year.

16 Mar 2026 15:33:55
Danny Rohl, in his comments, clearly views him as a leader in the dressing room, no matter what we think. He is someone who knows the club inside out, and during what is, and will continue to be, a massive transition, the more old heads who understand the demands, the better, possibly.

By keeping him until 2027, Rangers secured a homegrown international player without having to pay a massive transfer fee for a replacement, providing a safety net while they rebuild the rest of the defense for next season.

So, more cash in transfer fees for other positions.
The wage rise, as I understand it, was to bring him into line with other regular starters. He had been on Β£8k until then. The salaries always split fans, as the figures are well beyond anything we are likely to be paid per week. That isn't the player's fault, nor the club's, just the going rate for a current Scotland international, perhaps.

16 Mar 2026 15:36:32
But he fills the European quota. 😲
If that's the basis for signing players or giving them improved contracts, we are fecked.

16 Mar 2026 19:05:31
Mph, I agree with u, it's affecting the quality of our squad and its depth.

The problem is, though, that's the realistic situation we're in.
We need to fill these 8 positions somehow. Lads.

John, you're right, mate, it's a helluva price for our finances to pay out on a 4th choice, but with the exits that are going to be happening, it's important to have some continuation.

As
Yous know, I've been one of Souttars biggest critics for the whole time he's been here, but we could do worse for back up.

He'll be away next summer.

16 Mar 2026 21:59:55
Correct, Mph, it's ridiculous.

Angus, he shouldn't be a regular, and if he is, we are fecked.

17 Mar 2026 08:01:58
Storm, your opinion and others, but until we sign better he is. I don't think he is as bad as he is made out to be; like all players, he makes mistakes, but some of those are contrived. He gives away a free kick against Livingston and 1 minute later, after our defence is meant to be set, they score from that free kick. That isn't him giving a goal away, surely.

But I have said before, what we think isn't worth the ether it is written in, as it is what the club and the manager thinks. I think he will get regular game time this season and next, as they obviously still rate him; otherwise, why give him a new contract? Just to fill a euro quota seems an odd way to spend close to Β£1M if he isn't going to play.

17 Mar 2026 08:13:43
John, 17k, was he not only on 8k prior, and was that initially why he never signed? If true, that's a hell of a pay rise.

17 Mar 2026 10:48:49
How much would it cost us to replace him with another Scots-trained player, between fee, signing-in fee and wages?

Souttar will play his share of games. I just don't see him being first pick. The manager sees what we see too.

17 Mar 2026 12:59:31
Stevie, we use the Scots part as it leads to the mocking that he is only there to fill a Euro quota. Looking at this year's squad, only Souttar, Barron and Curtis really got game time there, and Curtis wasn't in the 8 spaces as he was u21. So, what is the point of having a player in the Euro squad if he will never get game time? We would be better binning him and buying a non-Scot to take the place of one of the international players.

Take Cameron as an example - Scottish, in squad but never played a minute. What was/is the point of that?

I think he was re-signed to give the carry over of a player experienced in the club when we are about to make massive changes to the defence. Otherwise, we only have Manny, Rommens and possibly Sterling from a group expected to be around 8 players.

16 Mar 2026 08:22:25
According to some on here, yes it's your opinion granted but we should just give up now as we will finish 3rd. Naderi shut the door and Rohl out. Really. Young Naderi is putting great effort and work in, he was all over the pitch v St mirren, yes goals aren't coming at the moment.

As for Rohl. He's had 1 window, improved our team since martin, every manager may make mistakes in some eyes of supporters, some supporters may agree but some calling for his head already, just wow. Who needs enemies when your a Rangers fan. Seriously some need get a grip.

16 Mar 2026 09:01:14
Well said Davie, panic set in here when the first drawn game happened.

16 Mar 2026 09:40:01
People are allowed their opinions whether you agree or not.

16 Mar 2026 09:40:25
Trueblue, and a few more draws can after that. πŸ‘Œ

16 Mar 2026 09:50:19
Storm, as I said, it's your opinion. I'm not doubting amy1s option as said, but come on. Maybe a bad game or result, then let's sack the manager and have a team rebuild. Really is ridiculous by some.

16 Mar 2026 10:49:27
Got to agree, Davie. According to some on here, we should give up and sack the manager at the first setback. We are in a far better place now than we were when Dr took over. Give him a chance, and at least a couple of windows (only my opinion).

16 Mar 2026 10:57:41
I'm with you, Davie. We are in a title race, which will go to the wire. Let's see who has the bottle. Most importantly, we need to get behind Danny and the players as we push for 56.

16 Mar 2026 11:04:52
No manager is building a winning squad in a couple of windows. But we've got a man right now that's only had one window, working with a squad he came into, and has got us right in a fight for winning the league.

Rohl needs far longer and another couple of windows. We know it was only St Mirren, but that's our first win in four games in Paisley.

16 Mar 2026 13:45:14
Davie, I ain't wanted rid of the manager or Naderi, though I do have reservations about the big striker, as the jury is still out. We paid far too much for him; should have been 1 million max, and we spanked 5 on him. Next season we will see if he cuts the mustard.

16 Mar 2026 14:25:01
Storm, I agree we paid too much in my opinion. Granted, he's not scored the goals, but for me, his work rate yesterday was great. Remember, he's young and in a new country. I'm agreeing that, at the end of next season, to judge. I'm also going to judge Danny next season, but more so possibly the following season, meaning he has had 4 windows for getting players in.

My point being in the post was we can't just call for a managers' or players' heads after a disappointing performance or result.

16 Mar 2026 17:32:16
Davie, we possibly only know we paid too much when we come to sell him. After 7 games, it is too early to tell either way. Good posts, btw, and I agree entirely with the sentiment.

16 Mar 2026 22:01:25
No, Angus, it doesn't matter what we sell him for. We paid far too much money for him.

17 Mar 2026 08:04:52
Storm, once again, your opinion. I am beginning to wonder if you know the difference between opinion and fact. Please have the opinion, but don't just quote it as a fact. tbh I don't even know what the cost was, as I wasn't at the transfer discussions.

The club thought he was the right price, so they think he is. I can't put it any more simply. So, when he gets sold, we will hopefully make a profit.

15 Mar 2026 20:54:17
Dont think the 2 up is doing is any favours both strikers are off form and i'd like to see 1 up with 2 wide men either side and Moore as the 10. If we can find a way of being more creative we have a real shout.

i'd like to see Barron alongside Raskin or chukka he offers so much energy and closing others down. Maybe Antman on 1 side and Olson the other although he's been a massive let down so far

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Mar 2026 21:26:00
I ain't a fan of 2 up top ows either.

16 Mar 2026 08:59:05
2 up front works if you have the right staff. Read the debate about Boyd. Probably right. He and McCoist wouldn't survive in this structured, non-chance-creating, backward-passing, possession football where shooting is frowned upon.

How many of the draws, including the cup game, were crying out for a toe poke or a six-yard screamer. πŸ€”

15 Mar 2026 18:37:04
The points out of ten on another site shows our forwards not even getting 10 between them. Can we hang on in the next 8 " cup finals " if we are lucky enough to be in front? We'll see, but we don't seem capable of 90 minutes play are are nervous as hell defending when only 1 goal up.

We need to get a grip quickly!

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Mar 2026 09:03:06
The team and the coaching staff seemed more animated than Morph for that last cup final.

16 Mar 2026 09:03:11
Been two goals up and still panicked.

16 Mar 2026 10:10:58
Trueblue, it isn't the team who are panicking though. πŸ˜‰

16 Mar 2026 12:50:32
Angus, who is it then? Enlighten us with your superior wisdom. If it's not the players, who is it? By the way, please leave out the useless emojis.

16 Mar 2026 13:58:51
The useless emojis, as you mention, were put in to show it was a joke. Read these pages daily, and you will see it is fans who are worried about every single game, every single poor performance. So, fans are panicking as well. The unrest in the stands spreads to the players on the field, and increases any anxiety they may be feeling.

15 Mar 2026 18:14:43
Had a chance to watch the Gogic penalty claim back again. With reference to the rules below this should have been a yellow and a penalty.
Arm was fully out was making him bigger and not in a natural position, 100% pen. Today Dundee United got a pen for a similar situation.

IFAB rule
touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player's body movement for that specific situation. By having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of their hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalised.

Agree4 Disagree0

15 Mar 2026 20:19:45
Tjb, I think it is about the natural and unnatural position. How you manage to guess what that would be, I still can't fathom.

One question I always ask is whether I would be unhappy if it was given against us. So, using that criterion, what would your answer be?

15 Mar 2026 20:32:28
Header on target and it hits the hand of an outstretched arm, no complaints from me either way.

15 Mar 2026 20:38:19
I wouldn't like it if it was given against us. His upper arm is close to his side, and it hits his hand. I think his arm was there, as it was part of his body movement as well.

I also don't think the header was going in, as there was a Saints defender behind. It doesn't matter in the grand scheme, as we won 1-0 anyway.

15 Mar 2026 21:27:37
It would have hit his body if it didn't hit his hand. No pen.

16 Mar 2026 07:45:36
Thought it should have been a penalty.
Also thought Hearts should have got a penalty with Braga.

16 Mar 2026 12:51:42
It was a penalty according to the rules and their application.

Should those be the rules, absolutely not, but they are, and we should get them when it happens.

We have had many penalties given against us where the arm was tucked in way more than this instance.

I don't expect anything that has an element of subjectivity, so I was not surprised it wasn't given.

We won the game, so it did not affect the outcome, which is what we need to do, as we know we won't get any help from referees.

15 Mar 2026 15:08:43
It's clear a lot of our foreign players struggle playing in Scotland, it's clear as day πŸ€”We need a spine of good Scottish players who can definitely play in this league πŸ€” That's why and i don't get tired of saying it regarding imo Connor Barron would be in my midfield for Rangers, every day of the week πŸ€”I actually heard scotty arfield praising Barron to the hilt when he came on this afternoon πŸ€”He also said he thinks Barron will improve more and more and i totally agree πŸ‘

Agree5 Disagree0

15 Mar 2026 15:35:43
Stop blowing smoke u his arse, Cameron is better for me.

15 Mar 2026 15:50:34
Rangers, as a team, didn't improve when Barron came on. He did ok when he came on, but you would think he is Zidane the way some fans go on about him.

The Scottish spine is also not true. I wouldn't say Celtic have had a Scottish spine the last few years, and they have won the league.

15 Mar 2026 15:55:37
Sws, Barron has definitely improved as a Rangers player, mate. He will only improve further.

15 Mar 2026 16:01:45
Seen plenty of foreign players who can play in Scotland and are willing to run or challenge. As much as I like Barron too, nationality ain't got much to do with it. Just a group of poor players, unfortunately.

15 Mar 2026 16:30:59
Aye, when he goes to Bologna. 🎣 πŸ˜‰

15 Mar 2026 21:28:35
Forky, you are very cheeky today. πŸ˜‚

15 Mar 2026 21:44:18
Cba with the love ins for average players, Storm. Of course that's just an opinion, but apparently I'm wrong and get pulled for a phrase you coined πŸ‘€ that I inadvertently used on live chat. Ah well. πŸ’© happens. πŸ‘

16 Mar 2026 00:53:20
Yes, an average player in your opinion, Fork. Clearly not in others, mate. It gets just as tiresome defending these players certain fans think aren't good enough, even when management says otherwise.
